Dinner Report

Yum!  I love having dinner at my house!  🙂

Tonight we had Hungarian Goulash in the crockpot, served over noodles.  If you remember, that was supposed to have happened the first week we were here and I’ve just now gotten around to fixing it.  We also had cole slaw and mustard greens.  These were some my dad grew in the fall and sent back to MO with me and I canned them.  They were so good!  I called mom and she said dad was planting mustard, turnips and lettuce.  I need to be very careful about planning my trips home so I can get in on some of that good food!

Vince loved the Goulash.  I wasn’t real sure what he was going to think about it.  Neither of us are big fans of paprika so I didn’t use quite as much as the recipe called for and after I had thickened the juice, I added some sour cream and let that heat up before serving.  I’ll definitely make this again.  Also, the house smelled really good this afternoon with this cooking in the crockpot.

Tomorrow is Friday so that means I send a snack to work with Vince.  It’s a Kentucky Butter Cake.

The darker color is where the butter sauce penetrated the cake.

The cake pan I used is a bit smaller than a regular Bundt cake pan so I got two little mini loaf cakes.  One for us and one to take to friends we’re meeting tomorrow night for dinner.

looks so good = do you have a recipe for the goulash – I don’t have a crock pot with me in the camper (we are traveling) but maybe I could make it up in my big pot that I have with me and cook the meat on low heat for awhile.

Here in Hungary is not exactly like this. The green thing is not to be. Instead of pickled cucumber. + Warm bread!
My Dutch friends to cook stew in the summer. They can not cook. beautiful cake.

Judy…my first time commenting, but have followed your blog for year, I was on the Alex Anderson message board way back when too. After seeing your dinner picture and cake, I made the Kentucky butter cake last night and let me tell you it is HEAVEN ON A PLATE…of COURSE I doubled the sauce recipe {after reading the comments that some did}…possibly next time I will only one and a half the sauce recipe :O) ..I THANK YOU my Husband THANKS YOU for finding us the best cake recipe EVER ! !

Ronda, thanks for writing. I actually make 1-1/2 times as much sauce but don’t use absolutely every drop of it. Glad you liked the cake.
