Week 51 Stash Report

Design Wall Monday 12/21/09

There was an addition to my stash this week . . even though I didn’t do it.  I promise . . I didn’t do anything . . I just opened the door when the UPS man rang the doorbell!

A friend sent me the cutest kit to make a chicken quilt.  It’s a great quilt and it will be perfect for the chicken fabric I’ve been dying to use for a backing.  She also sent a big piece of fabric with eggs — brown and greenish blue eggs . . just like I get from my chickens! Puts me back into negative numbers again but I haven’t counted the fabric for the four patches (which were on my design wall last week and are still on my design wall), so I will end the year in the positive . . I hope!

Used this Week:  0 yards
Used year to Date: 456.50 yards
Added this Week: 10 yards
Added Year to Date: 457 yards
Net Used for 2009:  -5.50 yards

There’s 10 days left, plenty of time to use 10 yards! And what a great box to come to your door! I don’t think you should count presents!!

It doesn’t count if someone gives it to you, does it? he he he

If the reason you’re in the hole at this point is because a friend sent you some fabric, I would just laugh! Just think, you’ll be able to use it when you do some crazy stash busting next year!

Is the kit for an applique quilt. I had a chicken applique kit that was absolutely beautiful. I used 9 of the blocks for a wall hanging that hangs in my kitchen and the left over ones for a quilted table topper. I get lots of compliments on them. I’ll do a post on my blog and show them sometime next week.

I agree with the others, gifts should be freebies.

I’m with Tamera…it doesn’t count if someone gives it to you..it only counts when you purchase it yourself…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

I would be happy to take that of your hands and add it to my stash!! I only have one chicken quilt-“My Black Hen-“, but stuff for about 4 more different ones. Have you seen the quilt book “Chicken Gumbo” by Leisure Arts? Its a scream-and yes I do have it. Hugs, Bobbie

My BAD–Its called CHICKEN BUFFETT, not Chicken Gumbo. Bobbie–One of the chickens is called chicken gumbo tho.

Ooh — Can I go back and redo my spreadsheet? If I don’t count the fabric given to me, I’m only 11 yards in the hole and I know I’ll use at least 7 1/3 yards maybe more before the end of the week.

Hi, this is your friendly accountant checking in…. do you need an audit of your spreadsheet? It seems to me that you are off by 5 yards and it should be just a half yard in the hole? At least I hope it is just your subtraction that is off 😉

I *cannot wait* to see your chicken quilt! That’s going to be fantastic! 🙂

I am throwing in the towel on the stash “tracking”. I am expecting another sizable order in from Thousands of Bolts this week…lol. However, I’m going to continue to participate in your blog ring, and just post about my stash quilts. And, my post this week, when I get around to it later today, will be about pulling out my chicken fabrics and finally getting a start on MY chicken quilt!

I too added to my stash this week without buying anything. I won a drawing on a friend’s blog awhile ago and my package arrived this week. A really cute block of the month kit (all 12) with pattern and fabric. And, a huge zip lock bag of precut scraps in squares, rectangles and triangles. Hmmmm, I’m sure I’ll find a scrappy use for those in the new year. My computer died a few months ago and I lost my stash spreadsheet so I can’t post my totals for this year. I’ll start fresh in January. 🙂

Despite a 10 yard addition, I’m still in the black. 🙂 And finally remembered to tally the swap blocks and other items that hadn’t been added into the fabric used column – tho it didn’t equal that 10 yards purchased. But I’ll have one final push – a mystery quilt for New Year’s Eve sewing that I need to get cut before hand and some presewing done so I’ll have a few more yards being used out of the stash yet this year!

I made two chicken quilts two years ago and have quite a few more pieces of chicken to sew this next year. Is 2010 the chinese “year of the chicken”? It can be in our quilt world.

I’ve been lurking and looking at the stash reports for quite awhile, and I’m thinking I might get brave and start participating in 2010. I’m in for the Show Your Stash challenge anyway. I think doing the reports will help me prove I’m actually making some progress. I need to do something before they find me crushed to death under a fallen pile of fabric!

I haven’t written a report on my blog, but I’ve used over 6 yards making Christmas presents this year. 😀

The closer the end of the year and my deadline loom, the less I seem to be getting done! What’s wrong with this picture?
