Prints add so much movement to my quilts. I seldom make anything without them. They can also add feeling or emotions, novelty prints can add a smile, floral prints can add beauty etc. I wouldn’t want to be without my prints.
I like the printed background on the blocks that are up. But if the ones in between will also be that fabric, it might be too much. How about a quieter white or beige?
I’ll bet that background will be awesome. I agree with the earlier comment by Patricia that printed backgrounds make a project “move”. Keep going I say! Sandi
I really like the printed background on the blocks that are up – and yes, I agree – it adds eye movement – draws your eye towards the “X” of the chain blocks. However if it does make you nervous – you might consider unbleached muslin as a “go with for the remainder blocks since what my computer reads is not white but an off-white – about the shade of unbleached muslin.
Personally though I would stay with the background you have – I think it is great and just THE fabric for the quilt!

And FWIW – I’m starting mine today – although it is more than a bit different from yours – esp since I didn’t have anything in yardage like you wanted. So – I AM using unbleached muslin as my background since it “goes with” my chosen fabrics so well – and after reviewing just about every fabric I DID have quite a bit of – I’ve chosen a … well, you’ll have to wait and see! LOL I think it will be pretty – different from – but same overall pattern as yours! but then that’s what quilting is!!!!!
(And as soon as I can afford to – I am DEFINITELY going to go raid the quilt shop and get that golden yellow!!!!!!)

it is such a subtle print that really reads as a solid from a distance, or from the thumbnails, because it does that, you can be reassured that it is not too much….it is not as BUSY as you are imagining it to be. i believe it is beautiful and that you really did pick the perfect background fabric for this quilt.
Sunny Side Up is looking very sunny and bright. Thanks for sharing. Thanks also for hosting this lovely linky party. I am linking up for the first time although I have been reading your blog and enjoying your patterns for a very long time. Thnak you! … 🙂 Pat
Why does the printed background make you nervous? I know you don’t typically work with prints, but that one looks pretty neutral and looks great with the other two colors you’ve chosen.
