We had Speck when Rita came to live with us but Speck was old and he didn't want to play. He was nice to Rita, which surprised me, but he had health issues and about the only thing he would do with her was let her sleep next to him on his little bed in the family room. Rita would try to get him to play with her but he had no interest at all So, really, this is the first time I've had two dogs that ...
Barley vs. Oatmeal
According to what I find on the internet (I have not confirmed any of those other than the internet) the glycemic index for steel cut oats is 53 while the glycemic index for whole barley is about 25, depending on which chart you look at but, according to Livestrong: Processed BarleyPearled barley, which is not a whole grain since much of the outer bran layer has been removed, has a GI rating of ...
Broccoli and Barley Recipe
I'll write how I made it -- way too simple! :) I get 10 pounds of frozen broccoli from Azure Standard almost every month. It comes in two 5 pound bags and it's cut into fairly small florets with very little stem so they break apart easily. Broccoli & Barley

The GI of hulled barley is 24 and brown rice is 68. Steel cut oats is around 53. Most sites say those numbers are + or - 4 so . . no matter how you look at it, barley is the best, by far. We actually like cooked barley. For ...
MH 1860 Finished!
Last night I finished MH 1860 by Needlework Press. This project was done on Vikki Clayton's new linen, which I love. It was so easy to stitch and I really like the way it feels. The color is Yamp Up and the floss is Vikki Clayton's silks. This was started on November 9 and finished on November 23. This is the chart: When I first started this project, I talked about some things I was ...
Thanksgiving Lunch
Last Thursday I had gone to my friend's town to meet her to stitch for the day. We alternate - she comes here one week and I go there one week and we're a little over an hour apart. When I got home last week, it was about 4 p.m. and Vince wanted to run to Carthage, eat at the hospital and pick up something he needed from Lowe's. We didn't realize that was the day the hospital was having their ...
