One of today’s comments was something like “What are you going to talk about now that the fridge issue is resolved?” I figure since I’ve been blogging for 20+ years, I’ll come up with something but, little did I know that another fridge would go out! Chad said “What is it with y’all and refrigerators?”
We have an older . . at least 13 years old . . fridge in the garage. It isn’t a “garage ready” fridge and it was in the not air conditioned shop building in Texas and then it’s been here for four years so it’s had a rough life. I remember looking at the thermometer in it in probably October or November and it was 47 degrees. I told Vince we should probably have it looked at and then the next time we looked at it, the temp in the garage was probably cooler and the fridge temp was about 42 degrees, which is too warm but we’ve been using it for bottled water, soda, wine, bread – things that technically do not have to be refrigerated. Today I looked at it and it was 49 degrees. Not good! Vince said “At 13 years old, and not being garage ready, it probably isn’t worth fixing. Find another one!”
I went back to Metro Appliance’s website and they have a 20 cubic feet fridge (no freezer) on sale. I called and we’re ordering that one. They said it would be 2 – 3 weeks for us to get it so now, we’re short ANOTHER fridge!

I considered replacing the kitchen fridge with something like this – no freezer but we really want ice and water on the door for the kitchen fridge. We have upright freezers and between watermelons and ham and sauces and leftovers and fruit and all the things we seem to keep on hand, we need the fridge space much more than we need the freezer space. I really try to go to the grocery store no more than once every two or three weeks so sometimes I have a lot to go into the fridge. Then, when it’s time for my grocery store visit, there will be lots of empty space in the fridge.
I’ve never had a fridge without a freezer. I may end up thinking it wasn’t the best idea but, for now, I think it’s a great idea.
I’m not going to say “what else can go wrong around here?” but really . . what else . . nope! Not saying it! 🙂

When we got all the paperwork yesterday that the appliance store had submitted to help us win the fight to get a new fridge, it was February 10 when we called in the first issue with the fridge so we’ve really been without a fridge in the kitchen for right at four months. Another month or so isn’t a big deal but I can tell you, I will be HAPPY to get it. We’re keeping the appliance store’s loaner til the new one gets here but it’s in the garage and I do miss having a fridge in the kitchen – especially the ice and filtered water on the door.
