Another day of stitching on the memorial piece for my dad. It’s starting to come together and I think my plan (very loose plan!) is coming together and may work with a few changes being made as needed.

A reader had asked about the order in which I plan to stitch the siblings’ names. Since my dad’s name is in the center and pretty much the focus of this piece, his name is there (Billy Miller). The remaining 8 siblings will be stitched wherever I can fit them in. I do plan to stitch them somewhat in order by date of birth. Jack was the first child born and his name/dates are at the top left. Aunt Ruby was next and I think I can fit her on the top right. That’s the plan. If it doesn’t work out that I can fit them on the piece in the order I’m hoping for, that’s ok. I mainly want to get the names and dates on there.
Tomorrow (Friday) is the first day this week we haven’t had to be somewhere and a couple of days, there were several things to do . . several trips here and there. I’m hoping to get LOTS of stitching done tomorrow.
I think I’m going to work on getting the larger motifs stitched and then fit the names/dates in wherever there is space.
One thing I was concerned about had been the border. Since this piece isn’t going to be anywhere near the size of the chart, I was hoping to not have to do a lot of math getting the border to work. This afternoon I noticed that there’s a break in the border on both sides. Problem solved!

You can barely see the side borders but about midway on each side, the border just ends. On the left side, the vine goes out into where the border would be. That makes adding the border super easy. I will stitch the top border, then mark where I need to start the bottom border (on one side), stitch the bottom border, then start stitching up both sides, stop at some point, then start stitching down from the top border and stop, leaving about 1-1/2″ space without any border stitching.
Hope to have a BIG stitching day tomorrow!
