I have not been happy with the text with my dad’s name (nor the color). The color looks good in the basement at night with the lights but it’s way more periwinkle during the day so I’m ripping all that out.

This morning when I woke up, the first thought that popped into my head was . . Stop trying to make it work, rip out the text and chart it all. So, that’s what I’ve done. I’m glad most of the brothers and sisters had short names!

I’m going to go back and check all those dates before I start stitching them because I could easily have made a mistake. This has been surprisingly emotional for me – remembering times with the family and stories I’ve heard. Of course, I never knew those who passed before my time – my grandpa, Jack, Herbert, Charles or Daniel. Goodness, I guess I only knew half of the siblings. Charles died in World War II. Herbert died in a car accident, Daniel died as a baby and Jack was about 10 years old when he died. Hard to believe how hard times must have been back then.
I’m still not sure how I’m going to lay this all out but I do want it all on there. I want this piece to be a picture of everything I know about their lives.
You know that my plans are made to broken – always! I think I’m going to keep working on this and not switch to another project. Dad’s birthday is July 17 and I would LOVE to have this finished and framed by then.

What a beautiful way to honor your family and record your family history. A treasured heirloom, for sure!

-May I ask if that’s the order you’re going to stitch them in? I would think in birth order (or reverse, to put your father at the top).
What a lovely, meaningful piece.
