I knew it would be but I was still concerned because, as Vince says, I worry about everything. I don’t know how we first found Josh but when we bought this house, there were two Bradford Pears – one on each side of the driveway. We wanted those gone immediately. There were the two Callery Pears near the deck and one of those for sure needed to come down. Someone told Vince about Josh and we really like him.

I didn’t really go outside to watch . . I had gone out to take the dogs out and took this picture. The fence right in front is part of the “trellis” for my tomato plants. The green shrub right behind it is part of our elderberries. They’re spread all around but those few right there are the biggest ones we have.
There’s a river birch in the front yard that we thought was dead but Josh thinks the tree itself is ok, the top was broken out during a storm so Josh trimmed it up.
Vince has a . . I hate to even say this but he has a wire that goes out one of the windows and he tied some fishing weights to it and shot that with a slingshot up over some tall tree branch and that’s some connected to his ham radio. Every few months the wire sags and Vince has to mess with it again so while Josh had his bucket here, Vince got Josh to help him get that wire higher up in the tree and got it all secured properly.
There was a river birch in the front that had died and Chad and Vince cut it so now Josh is out grinding that stump and the one from the tree he cut this morning.
So, so glad to have that tree gone and not have to worry about it blowing over in the next storm.
Vince had to take down the wires that the raspberries grow on and my clothesline – just the lines, none of the poles, so now he has to put that all back up and we’ll be good as new.
Not even 4 p.m. yet and I think I’m going to get to start cross stitching. That would be great if I could get in 6 or 8 hours tonight!

As soon as I started reading about the wire out the window I knew it had to be for a ham radio. My father was a ham radio operator and he had a telephone pole put up in our backyard for his antenna when I was a child. He also ran a wire through a wall to the outdoors in my in laws vacation home without asking if anyone would mind. Ham radio operators are rather unique.

“Unique” is a good description!

I had to read your paragraph about Vince’s ham radio wire to my husband, as he has wires going through three trees in the yard about our house. He says he used a slingshot too. His radio setup is all digital, no voice.

That’s funny about someone those ham guys using the slingshot. I don’t think Vince’s radio is digital but I have no idea.

…It’s interesting to watch trees come down. We had several large pines taken down the last several years. When we were in Michigan last year we saw apple trees growing espaliered on fences. The trees aren’t very tall or wide. They were everywhere so I wonder if that’s new trend.
