Our dogs love taking long walks in the mornings but with these temps, they were so fast this morning. I bundled up with a heavy coat, mittens, and a cap thinking we would be out for a while but I think I would have been fine without even a jacket. We were in an out in about 2 minutes. Cooper loves the snow but I think with the cold, slippery, packed now, he wasn’t wanting to be out there long.

When I got up just a little after 6 a.m., it was -11 but in less than two hours, the temp had dropped to -8. I haven’t looked again to see what it is but you can bet it’s cold. I know a lot of people have colder temps than we do but this is unusual for us. Unusual as in we sometimes, but not every year, have negative temps but not very often. The good news is that our heat is working. The not so great news is that the solar panels have spent a lot of this month covered in snow so we’re not going to get much benefit from them.
The icemaker repairman is supposed to be here today. I’ll be surprised if he comes I understand . . I wouldn’t be going out with the road conditions like they are. Schools are closed again today. From the list on our local news, I’d say at least half of Missouri doesn’t have school again today so this is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. Last week was for sure Wednesday and Thursday – can’t remember if they went on Tuesday or not.
The amazing thing is that the USPS has not missed one day of delivering mail and packages I thought would spend days and days in Kansas City are being delivered. Again, I wouldn’t blame them if they hadn’t been delivering these last few days but they have been.
Our trash pickup missed last Thursday. We got an email that they will not be delivering today but will pickup whatever we have at the curb next Thursday. That is going to be three weeks worth of trash! We’ll be fine. Most of what we eat comes out of canning jars – either canned or freeze dried foods. Of course, I save those jars. Some things come out of the freezer but most of that is in vacuum seal bags and they don’t take up much room. Shipping boxes, if they don’t have much ink on them, get broken down and we use those in the garden for weed control along the paths. Brown packing paper gets shredded for the worms or the compost bin.
I wouldn’t want to be the guy driving the track pickup truck next week. He’s going to have a BUSY day!

I shred all the junk mail and use it as part of the mulch all the time. So I have less trash.

That’s a great idea! We rarely get junk mail any more. They must have given up on us. 🙂

I saw that Indianapolis is the great sticking point now. I saw a video that made it look like a giant storage locker, with boxes and boxes piled high. People say they’re waiting weeks and weeks for mail and packages!!

If the temperature went from -11 to -8, it went up, not down.
