A package from Rare Seeds is almost as exciting as a package from a cross stitch shop!

Some of these seeds, I’ve had and grown before but some are new to me. I’m really excited to try the purple Bok Choy and the black radishes. I’ve never grown a green tomato (as in one that stays green and doesn’t get red or purple when ripe). The Little Gem lettuce is also new for me.
As soon as it gets warm enough that I can work outside for a while, I’m going to fill some seed starter cups with seed starter soil and get the peppers started inside. They take so, so long to get going. Last year, I think it took two months before they even sprouted. Seems like a lot of folks had problems getting peppers going last month so if I start them by February 1, hopefully they’ll be nice and strong by mid to late May.
I’m getting excited about a fresh start in the garden!

I bought some flower seeds to start inside to be ready for spring. I really miss my Hollyhocks and want them back. With my luck the deer will think I planted them as a restaurant for them…they already consume the lilies as fast as they grow. They do seem to leave sweet peppers alone, though. If only they didn’t like tomatoes…sigh.

I miss my hollyhocks too. I just don’t have the time to keep veggies and flowers and fruit trees watered. I’m hoping this summer will not be so dry and maybe I’ll be brave enough to plant some flowers next year. What flowers are you starting? We have a 6′ fence, which I know is just a small leap for the deer but so far, they have not jumped in. I’m sure that will change some day.
