The Souper Cubes (also available on Amazon and other places) make me so happy!
Most of the garlic I harvested this year was chopped in the food processor and placed in the 2 T. cubes. I think I ended up with over 300 cubes of garlic. Each of the 2 T. cube trays has 10 “holes” and I have six trays. Every time I chopped the garlic, I filled all 6 trays five times so that’s 60 x 5 = 300 but I also filled a couple of trays one more time. I A few times I also filled some of the 1/2 cup trays. Those can be partially filled for 1/4 cup but, with the garlic, I filled them to the 1/2 cup mark. I can always break one in half if I don’t want the whole thing but when I’m making gumbo or a pound of dried beans, I will use the half cup of garlic. I think I have enough garlic to last me til I harvest again in the summer.
This morning I dumped the last of the garlic that was still in the freezer so that freed up the cubes to use for something else.
I like to make little pucks of chopped chicken liver, gizzards, pumpkin and broth for the dogs. I will add one cube per day or every other day to their evening meal – 1 cube per dog per day means I needed to fill all six trays so I got that done. Each day, I take two cups out of the freezer, put them in the dogs’ bowls after they’ve had their morning food. Then for their evening meal, I add their dog food to the defrosted cube, drizzle about 1/2 tsp. of olive oil in each bowl and they think they’re having a feast.
We’re having turkey (bought one on sale at Aldi last week) today so I grabbed a 2 cup cube of sweet potato casserole that we had leftover from Thanksgiving. We will have that, along with green beans, rolls and cranberry sauce for our meal.
