The heater repairs lasted three days! I guess it was good while it lasted. 🙂 Vince talked to the repairman and he will be here Monday. He said it could be “this” or “that” or it could be both. It’s sounding like we’ll need a new unit and I’m not sure those are easy to get these days. Towards the end of next week, we have night temps in the mid-teens. I’ve been asking to change out the unit. We always change our units at about the 10 year mark. This one is 7 or 8 years old and has been making some weird noises. I told Vince I don’t trust it and don’t want to have it go out and have to wait weeks to get a new one but . . those decisions are not mine to make. The repairman told Vince to change the fuse (again) and see if that will keep it running for a few more days so Vince has gone to get fuses.
We have several small electric room heaters and two propane fireplaces so we won’t freeze but it won’t be terribly comfortable and . . the cold toilet. That’s what I hate. The dogs are being super snuggly. Maybe I’ll get my knitting out instead of cross stitching for the next few days. As soon as Vince gets back, we’ll block off the stairs to keep as much warm air as we can in the basement. I can make cookies downstairs and that will help too. Sounds like a good excuse to make cookies, right? 🙂
The repairman did say that maybe this was the issue earlier in the week and the unit caused the wifi thermostat to go out where the one he put in won’t go out because of this problem but maybe if we get a new unit, we can get another wifi thermostat.
I could get the freeze dryer going. That generates a good bit of heat too. Wonder what I can find to freeze dry! Onions! I know I have a bag of onions I’m needing to freeze dry. Once Vince gets back, he can stay downstairs with the dogs. I don’t want them left alone with space heaters. I’ll go chop the onions and get that project going. I’ll mix up cookies while I’m up there and then bake them downstairs. Good things come from having no heat. 🙂

So sorry. That happened to me last winter. For a couple of years it would go off every time it went below freezing. Long story short, I had to buy a new combo unit (heat and a/c) and it was very expensive. At least I don’t worry about it going out (knock on wood) now. Best of luck with having your issues fixed ASAP.

We had to get a new a/c/furnace unit this summer when it quit in the middle of a heatwave. Now that our temps are dropping below 23 degrees, we are STILL warm inside at 72 degrees!! Unlike the last a/c/furnace unit which would not produce any heat if the temp dropped below 32 degrees!! I’m so happy!!
