This is the recipe for hot cocoa mix that I’ve used for several years. We like it. I do use whole milk powder that I get from Azure but the brand that is linked in the recipe is good too. If using whole milk powder, make sure it has a long “best by” date. I used all I had here for the hot cocoa mix, picked up a package at Walmart just to have some on hand until my next order from Azure arrives, and the package from Walmart has a best by date of sometime in late 2026. We’ll use all our hot cocoa mix by then. I don’t think the low fat milk will get rancid as fast as the full fat version.
The recipe suggests using white chocolate bars, which I don’t keep on hand but I always have white chocolate chips so I use those.
Since Vince has cut back on carbs, I used the Lily’s chips that are sweetened with stevia, which is what was available at Walmart. Amazon has other varieties with sugar substitutes. Also, I sweetened one batch with Allulose instead of powdered sugar and he was happy with those substitutes.
When we make the hot cocoa, we add the recommended 1/3 cup mix with 1 cup of hot whole milk.
