Last Thursday I had gone to my friend’s town to meet her to stitch for the day. We alternate – she comes here one week and I go there one week and we’re a little over an hour apart. When I got home last week, it was about 4 p.m. and Vince wanted to run to Carthage, eat at the hospital and pick up something he needed from Lowe’s. We didn’t realize that was the day the hospital was having their Thanksgiving lunch and there’s never a charge for those type lunches. It’s always good too – turkey, ham, dressing, green beans, rolls, dessert.
Then today I had to pick up a “kit” for a test I’m having so we went by the hospital in Joplin this morning. Vince said “Want to go see what they’re having for lunch today?” Addie and I had breakfast at the Joplin hospital cafeteria once but otherwise, we had never eaten there. We got to the cafeteria about 5 minutes before they opened and there was a long line. Vince walked up to see what they were having and it was their Thanksgiving lunch and there was no charge for any of it. Turkey, ham, dressing mashed potatoes, green beans. Dessert was pecan pie, pumpkin pie, cheesecake and something else I can’t remember. It was also delicious!
We lucked out with both of those dinners. We knew the Carthage hospital served a free Thanksgiving meal but we didn’t know when so happening to be at both places on the Thanksgiving feast day was nice and much appreciated.
