Please tell me I am not the last person to find out about these lids that are supposed to fit the Oui yogurt bottles. Most of the time I make our yogurt but there are plenty of times I buy yogurt. There are several brands I like but most often, when buying, I will buy the Oui because it’s just enough for me to eat without having leftovers. I also love Noosa yogurt but (1) it’s not easy to find around here and (2) there’s enough in one container for me to have two servings and I don’t always remember to eat the other half of the container and it aggravates me to have to throw anything out.
According to the Walmart website, they’re both 29.6 cents per oz. With the Oui, I get that cute little jar and can eat the whole thing in one sitting. With Noosa, there’s plastic to throw away and I have to remember to eat the other half of the yogurt. So, most often I buy Oui yogurt.
I am my grandmother’s granddaughter in so many ways. She saved every margarine container, every Cool Whip container, every bread twist tie. She never threw anything away. I don’t even know if she put it all to good use. I’m guessing she did. I have a tendency to save everything, end up with a whole big drawer, tub or shelf full of junk that, at some point, I just go in and throw it all out. Sometimes I tell myself . . you’re acting like your grandmother! I do save every glass jar, every lid because I use those with freeze drying. Yesterday all the tomatoes I had freeze dried for Cooper – all of them fit into five of the glass peanut butter jars and I was able to vacuum seal them.
This is the brand peanut butter we often buy and it’s in a glass jar with a metal lid. Azure has the best price we’ve seen. Amazon sells it but we buy it for less at Azure.
Anyway, I save those little Oui jars. I have one on each table with toothpicks in them. In the spring, I sometimes put little flowers in them. A couple of weeks ago, I had about two dozen of the little glass jars and I told myself – you can’t save everything . . and I threw them away.
Yesterday I was looking for lids for my small jelly jars.
These are 4 oz. jars and I’ve been using them for jelly but lately, I’ve been adding herbs to salt. A while back, a friend gave me a container of rosemary/salt that she had made and then I made some basil salt, more rosemary salt, garlic salt, lemongrass salt – pretty much any herb I had growing (except oregano!), I used them to make salt. I did find these lids for the 4 oz. Ball jars and ordered them.
Just below those lids on the Amazon page, I found these for the Oui jars and ordered them. I was so happy to find them so now I can start saving my jars again and I can use these to share some of my flavored salts with friends. They should be here tomorrow. I can’t wait to try them!
Of course, I will report back on how they work and if they seal tightly enough to keep the salt dry.

That’s a cute idea. I have one of those lids but not sure where I got it…. I’m thinking hobby lobby. Anyway the next time I eat Oui yogurt, which I have in refrigerator now, I will try the lid.

I have not tried salt to know if they seal tightly enough to keep it dry, but I have the translucent plastic snap on lids that I use to cover individual servings of jello, fruit salad, meaured out single oatmeal servings ready to add to a cup of water in an microwave safe bowl, etc, and a set of the bamboo ones with engraved flowers that I use for gifts and somewhere I want a decorative option. I love them. It also eases my saver urge.

I never thought of making herbed salt! Curious as to which one is your favorite

Any herbs you like should be your favorite. Because I could eat rosemary and basil straight off the plant, those are my favorites but rosemary is the best. I like the lemongrass salt on a few things – rice dishes, potato salad, most any kind of potato dish. The rosemary salt is amazing on a chicken that’s going to be baked.
You can take 1 tsp. of salt and herbs and make a tiny bit to try it.
