I’m so glad I started over with Farmhouse Christmas. I would never have gotten it done with the first one I started. When I started it (February 1, 2021), I was such a beginner! It had been close to 40 years since I had cross stitched and then it was on 14 count Aida. It was only in December, 2020 that I decided to start stitching again after seeing a friend’s work online. Counting those holes/threads on linen was not easy in the beginning. So, a little over a month after having picked up a needle and floss, you can imagine how tiny those holes looked, even on a 30 count linen. At some point after I put this one away, I worked my way up to 36 and then 40 count linen. On the 30 count, I was using two strands of floss but on 36 count and 40 count, I use one strand and I do not enjoy stitching with two strands so between the mistakes in my Farmhouse Christmas start, the 30 count somewhat stiff linen and the two threads, that project was doomed.
You know my plan was to get it out and start working on it exclusively in October but the entire month of September, I had to make myself stitch because I was dreading going back to this pieces and I could feel myself losing interest in cross stitching. Am I the most fickle person you’ve ever seen?
Just last week, the thought occurred to me . . just scrap what you’ve done on that piece so far and start over with a linen you will love and use one strand of floss. Now I’m happy again! 🙂
The white stitching doesn’t show up nearly so well with one strand as it does with two strands but that’s ok. The light was bright and it actually shows up fine in person.
You can see the size difference when stitching it on 30 count vs. 40 count. I would love to get at least one block stitched before Monday – maybe one block each week? I can dream, right?

Hi Judy, just a thought here. What you have finished on the abandoned piece looks very nice. Maybe it could be made into a pic or pillow using what you have stitched so far.

I did think about that. I want to get the whole thing finished and then I’ll go back and think about what I can do with that one. Thanks for sharing your idea.
