It’s that time of year when there are still a few things growing but the end is getting near for them.
Towards the end of July, most of the tomatoes were getting so scraggly and not producing much that it was no longer worth watering them so I stopped watering all the tomatoes. These cherry tomatoes don’t seem to mind having no water. They’re still growing, still blooming and still producing.
There are way more cherry tomatoes on those vines than we can eat. Cooper loves them. Oscar would starve before he would eat one.
The four squash plants are doing great and I do believe the squash bugs are gone. I’m not crazy about the summer squashes but I was determined to at least grow some and feel like I won the squash bug battle. I would love to be able to grow winter squash and will try again next year.
The sweet potatoes are still blooming. I’ll probably leave them alone until closer to a frost.
Today I planted the broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage. This time last year I planted 8 Brussels sprouts in grow bags. At the end of the season, I managed to dump 7 of them but I don’t know why one has been sitting in the corner looking somewhere between very pathetic and dead. If I remember it, I’ll water it but it doesn’t get much water and, being in the bag, it needs a lot of water. I figured if it has fought this hard to survive, I’d plant it in the ground with the other Brussels sprouts and see what happens.
I should let it go but I won’t. It’s an experiment and of course, in a few months, you’ll know the result. 🙂
We have this from Accuweather in our forecast. In our little valley, 32 in town will be 28 or 29 at our house. Of course, things could and probably will change before November 3. It was 98 yesterday, 88 today and then, most of our highs will be in the upper 70’s or low – mid 80’s.I
It’s a good thing I love winter and, not that it would do many any good, but if the plants freeze . . so be it. I’m ready for snow!
