Vince found a fruit orchard just across the state line in Kansas. It’s about 40 miles from our house so yesterday we took a trip over there and got a bunch of apples, Asian pears and regular pears. The lady gave us a taste of everything and those are the sweetest apples and pears I have ever tasted. We had a great orchard near us in Kentucky but I don’t remember the apples and pears being this sweet. The Asian pears, when cold . . I think I could eat those and nothing else for the rest of my days.
I think I already wrote that we got peaches on Monday and I canned peach pie filling and jam.
Yesterday after we got home, I canned Red Hot Cinnamon Apples. Today I canned pears in a light syrup and canned two pints of Asian pears just to see how they hold up in the canning process. I don’t want to can a bunch of those if we aren’t going to like them but if they’re good, it would surely be nice to have some of those throughout the year.
Once I get all this latest haul of fruit canned, we’ll go back over to the orchard and get more. There were a couple of types of apples she didn’t have ready yet.

Is there a reason for the jars to be upside down? Asian pears are very good. I have a Honey Crisp tree in my backyard if the kritters would just let them get red and sweet.

The apples wanted to float to the top so I turned them upside down for a while. That usually helps my cucumbers stay more suspended in the liquid. We’ll see if it worked for the apples.

We have two Asian pear trees and yes they are yummy when really cold. I can them and they turn out fine.

The lady at the orchard was adamant that they cannot be canned but USDA is so ultra conservative on canning and they say you can. Thank you for confirming it. Yes, when they are cold . they are just the best. Juicy, crunchy, sweet! Maybe I should go eat one right now.
