We left this morning and went to Chad and Nicole’s for Addie’s birthday party. Vince drove the pickup and I drove the Highlander. We left the pickup there so Chad would have a vehicle. You have to understand that the pickup gets driven about 3 miles once a month or so to the storage building and back to get something or take something. I know . . it’s HIS truck and he’s very kind to let Chad use it. As we were leaving, Chad thanked him for bringing it and said “I hope you have it back in a few months!” Vince didn’t say anything but a few minutes later, he said “Did he say MONTHS? I was thinking weeks!” I told Vince — they’re hoping to find enough parts to be able to rebuild Chad’s truck. Right now, the closest match to what they need is east of Fayetteville. They have to do it all on weekends . . just be patient with him. He wants his own truck as much as you want yours back.”
I made borracho beans with sausage and brought three quart jars of three different pickles. Doris’ Pickles (because it’s my friend, Doris’ recipe), Mrs. Wage’s dills and the red hot cinnamon pickles. Nicole grabbed the cinnamon pickles and said “I love these! I’m putting these away for me!” and she did. Every year, one of Chad’s friends, Seth, who has moved to Arkansas down near Fayetteville, comes and brings his two children. Nicole likes those cinnamon pickles but they don’t like other pickles so I was getting those ready to take home. Chad said “Mom, Seth LOVES those dill pickles.” I said “He can take them” so I told Seth I was leaving what was left of the jar of dill pickles for him and he was so excited. I asked Chad when he’ll see Seth again and Chad said “He’ll be in town every weekend during hunting season” so I told him I’d bring him more. He told me that he had been making pickles but none of his were that good. I told him it was Mrs. Wage’s dill mix so he’ll probably be making those next year.
Addie has a new friend – they moved here during the school year. They live down the road from Chad so the mom and Nicole have become friends. The mom was asking me about the pickles and Vince said “She cans everything!” so the lady started talking about canning and she wants to learn how so she asked if she could call me sometime. She has a gas stove so I told her I could come down sometime and give her and Nicole lessons.
On the way home, I looked at our cameras to see if an Amazon order had arrived. I cracked up when I looked at the picture.
A neighbor with an amazing garden has been leaving produce. He’s left really good corn, several cantaloupes and today, he dropped off a cantaloupe and a watermelon. How nice to live where we get “packages” not only from Amazon but also from a generous neighbor!
You have to wonder what delivery guy thought – a watermelon and a cantaloupe on the porch!
