This morning we were picking up bread in a small town east of here. It’s kinda like a triangle – our town, the bread lady’s town and Joplin. I needed to go to Walmart. Vince needed to go to Aldi and I told Vince . . I have a “reward” from Jimmy’s Egg for a free entree. Free? That always gets his attention. . . so we went to Jimmy’s Egg.
I’m not sure we’ve ever been on a Saturday because we avoid Joplin at all costs on Saturdays and any day after about 3 p.m. But, we were out and we both needed something from Joplin. Jimmy’s Egg was packed. Most of the time we were there, there were no available tables but the turnover was fast and no one seemed to be waiting long. They were shorthanded but the wait staff was friendly and cheerful and we didn’t have to wait long for our food. While we were sitting there, Vince who detests cell phones at the table, wanted to check prices on something at Home Depot, Menard’s and Walmart so while he was on his phone, I looked at mine and someone’s finished Farmhouse Christmas popped up on Facebook. I said “Oh, look at this!” Vince said “That’s very pretty but it looks like a lot of work!” He will usually say exactly what he thinks but he has been working on his filters. 🙂
I said “I’m stitching that!” He looked at me and I know he was thinking . . Big deal. Yours will never get finished! I said “I’m going to finish mine in October and hopefully get it framed and on the wall for Christmas. He looked at me again and I could tell he was trying not to laugh and he said “That will be nice!” Then I went over to Denise’s blog and showed him hers. I said “SHE HAS A FULL TIME JOB!” He said “She doesn’t have dogs.” I found this comment that Denise had left on the blog a couple of weeks ago:
” I don’t do any canning, I don’t have to go shopping with Vince, I don’t freeze dry, I don’t have to go shopping with Vince :-), I seldom bake bread and I don’t have to go shopping with Vince .”
Of course, he denied that he wants to go shopping all the time. We left Walmart and he wanted to run to another store nearby for something. I told him … NO! Come back without me. I have a million things to do at home! And besides, remember what Denise said about shopping! 🙂 He decided he didn’t need it after all, we came home and he assured me will not be leaving the house probably for a week. Raise your hand if you think that’s true!

There’s good and bad. Vince is always happy to take my grocery list to the store and the longer the list, the more he likes it. If I ever say “I love this thing but I wish I could find a bigger one” . . he’s on it. Right now I want a tall, narrow shelf unit to put where I had the batting stacked. He’s happy to find that for me. The only time I don’t like it is when he wants me to go with him or when we’re out doing something together and he wants to “run in for a minute”! I truly don’t mind shopping on a limited basis – when we NEED something but Vince could shop all day. I go in with a list, get what I need and I’m out. I don’t care about seeing markdowns or special buys. If it isn’t on my list, I don’t want it. No matter what’s on sale, Vince wants it . . thinking he’ll find a use for it. That rarely happens but, occasionally it does and I feel bad complaining about all the “stuff” here. In Vince’s defense, he says the same thing about my canning. He thinks I cannot every day (I don’t) and it goes into a black hole. We do eat a lot of food out of jars and he doesn’t realize how many jars we use.

This is the piece that got me back into cross stitch after I saw it on your blog. I didn’t finish until July 2023. It’s beautiful framed!
