Cooper did great with his “procedures” yesterday. They pulled two teeth, cleaned his teeth, did the neutering and expressed his anal glands. Poor baby. He kinda made Oscar look like the good dog..
The vet called us 11 and told us Cooper’s procedures were complete and he was recovering and everything was fine. We could pick him up after 2. We got there about 2:10 and waited and waited. The others who were there to get their dogs already had them. The tech came out and walked over to me and asked me to come to the back with her. She was a bit teary and I immediately almost cried thinking something was wrong. She noticed and apologized and said “He’s fine but he’s being a bit difficult and we can’t get him out of the cage (or crate – don’t remember what she called it). He had growled and tried to bite her, then she got someone else to try to get him out and he did the same thing. I think it upset her because she said she had held him while he was waking up and he was so sweet, then on her break, she went in and held him and he had “kissed” her and she was loving on him. Then, not expecting an issues from the sweet little puppy, and he almost bit her. I was surprised too but I guess he had enough already and wanted mom and dad to come and get him out of there.
He’s been a little difficult with the cones. He got out of the one from the vet . . twice. We put the blowup cone on him and he got out of that one twice. I was very thankful I had bought the Recovery Shirt. I bought the X-Small and had planned to try it on him last week and never did so I was very glad it seems to be a perfect fit and he seems very comfortable with it on.
Oscar has been very good too. He sniffed around on Cooper to see what was different but then left him alone. Oscar spent most of yesterday evening sitting with Vince. I ended up putting the harness over the recovery shirt, attaching the leash and putting it under my legs so Cooper could sit with me but couldn’t jump down. He isn’t supposed to be jumping up or down for a week. He tried to get down for a while but eventually gave up and went to sleep.
He slept through the night and was fine this morning.
I am so glad to have this little surgery behind us and will be glad when he and Oscar can go back to the rough playing.
