When people say “You are so organized!”, I laugh and my response for so many years has been “I’m so unorganized, I make myself look organized!”
My DMC is pretty organized, the overdyes are organized by brand on rings in alphabetical order, the Colour & Cotton and Victorian Motto floss is all organized by color but . . the Vikki Clayton Silk . . somewhat organized but not enough that I felt comfortable.
When I start something, like a new hobby, I always underestimate how much stuff there will be. If I would start out organized, with spreadsheets, etc., it would be so much easier than trying to do it after four years of collecting and buying.
Getting those new plastic boxes ordered gave me an idea.
Below is the label. It was about $8 at our Walmart.
I was thinking I could put all the little plastic boxes of Vikki Clayton’s silk bobbins in these bins. I could label each box as to what project it is for.
Before these bins, I had the plastic containers stacked and not labeled on the end. There is a conversion with the name of the chart, taped inside the front cover so all I had to do was pull out the plastic boxes, find the one I’m looking for and put them all back. No, I can just look at the tops of all the bins and find the one I need without having to pull any others out of the bins.
The bins are on the top of this book case. Not the top but the next shelf down is DMC. The bottom shelf has NPI Silks sorted by color. There are also little boxes for Weeks, Classic Color works, and Gentle Art that need to be added to the rings which are in the closet.
Until yesterday, I had the plastic bins for the projects I’ve already started inside the project bags but that makes them take up so much space. I will keep the plastic bins in the project bags for the three or four active projects I have in my rotation. All others will be in these wooden bins.
I would like to paint those wooden bins, add some magnets on the front, cross stitch some cute little pieces and add magnets so I can change them out on the fronts of those wooden bins.
This little project made me really happy! I feel more comfortable about being able to quickly find floss for projects.
