Sweet, little Cooper is having “surgery” about now. I hated to do it but I know it’s best for him, best for all of us! The vet encouraged us to do it earlier but I wanted to wait until he was a year old. Many recommend waiting til they’re 2 years old. Last week, he was so into being a boy that I almost called the vet and moved it up.
I will admit I shed a few tears leaving him at the vet this morning. He did not want to go with the vet tech and he probably sensed how nervous I was about leaving him.
The real “fun” (NOT) begins once he gets home. I guess I’ll keep one of them in the crate at all times. That is not going to be fun. They get very vocal when left in the crates – even worse when one is out and the other is in.
When Cooper had the snip snip, we used the blowup cone. He was not doing well with the plastic cone and he didn’t seem to mind the blowup cone but he could manage to get to the little thing you blow up and he would gnaw on that and then it would leak. I think we went through 8 of those things in two weeks.
I ordered two of these recovery shirts from Chewy. The vet said some dogs do well with them and some don’t. I asked the vet how he felt about using the blowup cone for close to a week, then switching over to the shirt. He thought that was a good idea. I’m more concerned about Oscar trying to check things out than I am Cooper messing with it.
Even though I don’t want to wish time to pass quickly, I’ll be glad when the next two weeks are over!

Hope everything goes well with the surgery and the healing process at home!
