Was it just a day or so ago that I was so committed to finishing projects and not starting new ones? All I can say is . . something must have happened that changed my mind because all of a sudden, I seem to want to start too many projects.
Start #1:
I’m not even sure this should count as a new start but technically, it is. Since I had to fill out a “New Project” page in my book, it’s going to count as a new start. This was one I had started, wanted to finish, decided I didn’t like what I had started so I started over. This is In Full Glory by Blackbird Designs – in the Sweet Land of Liberty book.
It’s very small and should be a quick finish . . if I stick with it.
Start #2:
A local friend and I were talking and both of us had been thinking about starting Friends & Family by Fox & Rabbit. I pulled up a photo I had where someone had stitched it in multiple colors and it looked so pretty. I already had my floss but she had to get her floss and she has it now so we’ve both started it.
I pulled four fabrics and I can tell you, in real life, they don’t look a whole lot like they do in these pictures. Why do I even bother to take photos since the color is off if I take them in the basement lighting.
It’s always surprising to me how similar fabrics look but then when I put them side by side, they’re quite different.
The linen in the above photo is Antique Lace by Seraphim. It’s out of stock at Colorado Cross Stitcher but here’s a link to the linen when it was in stock there. Parts of it are darker than other parts and while I will love that linen for a resproduction sampler, the mottling isn’t what I wanted for this project.
The above photo is Frieze by Atomic Ranch. I love this fabric but it’s a bit gray and I’m afraid that lighter blue might get a bit lost.
The above fabric is Chantilly Creme by Lakeside Linen. You can see a part of the Frieze above this fabric. I love this fabric but I wanted something more white.
This is the fabric I chose. It’s Cherubic by Tropical Stitches.
Start #3:
Sarah from Handmade by Sarah W. and some of her friends were starting Anne Hughs 1852 on July 1. The link is for a PDF from the designer but it’s also available at some online shops and probably some real live shops. I said . . I have been wanting to start that so I ordered the floss from Vikki Clayton. They have arrived but I’m struggling to find the right linen. I’ve pulled a dozen or more darker colors and the floss just isn’t working with any of those colors. There’s been at least one color of the floss that doesn’t show up on everything I’ve tried. I’ll look at a few more linens and then I may decide to swap out some of the floss. I’m ready to close my eyes and pick something.
Start #4:
The Camping Stitcher has some cute smaller designs in her Etsy shop. I’ve stitched at least one of them and have several. She is hosting a stitch along started July 4 for this chart. I had already seen the chart and was wanting to stitch it so, I’ll stitch along. It will be easy to find a linen to use for that and I’ll use floss from the stash. I guess I need to figure that all out today so I can start tomorrow.

Hi Judy! I love all of your starts – I have two projects which are close to being finished. My goal is to have them done by the end of July as I will then start working on Christmas ornaments for the grandkids. Have a wonderful 4th of July

Good luck getting the projects finished. Christmas ornaments are so fun and usually pretty fast. Thanks – happy 4th of July to you too!

Maybe since I ignored my urge to start all the things a few days ago it transferred to you. 🙂

I don’t know whether to say “thank you” or “you’re naughty!” I think I had worked long enough on WIPS and it was time for a few new starts. I still hope to work on some WIPS this month. We’ll see.

Well you know I can be a troublemaker at times. 🙂 But I’m glad I didn’t start all the things last week and worked on Leap Year project because I think I will actually get that project finished either today or tomorrow! It’s been so fun to stitch.

Judy, you have some fun neat starts for yourself. I love the color combinations for your Friends & Family from Vikki Clayton. I have not tried silks. They would be a good combination to that
pattern with. Was wondering if you can give out the color names for those silks by Vikki Clayton, as would like to try them. Enjoy your web site. I have learned so much from you.
Thank you

judy , I don’t know if my other comment went through or not as it didn’t come up on your
comment section, so I will try it again. Your new starts are neat. It would be hard to pick
which one to start first. I like the color combination that you picked for Friends & Family from
Vikki Clayton’s silk thread. I was wondering if you can give out the names of each of the
thread as I would like to try silks. Is there an advantage to silks over regular floss? Enjoy
your email as I have learned so much from you. Thank you very much.

Let me get started stitching and make sure all my colors are actually going to work. I should use all four colors by tomorrow. Then I’ll do a blog post about it and why I love silk. Is that ok?
Glenda says
Yes that is ok. Thank you
