These stores seem to be everywhere and I don’t know that any of them are really called “The Pallet Store” . . even ours isn’t called that. Vince used to go there ALL the time and we’ve had several discussions about it — mainly because he brings home things we don’t need and don’t have a place for and even though stuff there is $3 or $4 or $7, there’s a limit!
He probably hasn’t been in 5 or 6 months . . maybe! He had a legitimate place to go today and I asked for Woody’s Pizza for lunch. It’s all cooked in a woodfired oven and it’s a buffet of sorts. It isn’t like a normal pizza buffet . . it is but it isn’t. They usually have four or five pizzas out, will make anything you want. There’s usually just business type people there. I’ve never seen children in there. Anyway, I like it every now and then and it’s near the pallet store so Vince wanted to go there after we ate. I told him I didn’t mind going if we would set a time limit. He said 30 minutes and I said 45 minutes was fine. I know how much he enjoys digging through all that stuff.
I don’t even know what all he got but I think I found some good deals. Everything was $4 today.
When we first got Oscar, I bought a bell for him to ring when he has to go out. It’s the old desk type bell that he was supposed to tap with his paw when he needed to go out. That never worked. At first, he was afraid of it but then he got to where he wanted it upside down. Any time we set it out where he can see it, the first thing he does is turn it upside down. Why?? At the pallet store, they had this doggie doorbell. I put it on a post by the gate that keeps them off the stairs. It’s also right by the door that goes to the downstairs garage that we have to walk through to go outside. Oscar was determined to pull it off the post but then he figured out he got a treat for mashing it with his nose so he had it down in no time. Cooper seems more interested in going after the gizmo that rings and trying to figure out why Oscar’s nose pushing the button on the gate is making the bell ring over by my chair. Oscar rings the bell and Cooper runs to my chair. He’ll figure it out.
I found this Danish dough whisk. I love these and use the for all kinds of things. Wish I had used that instead of the immersion blender for that batch of soap a month ago! 🙁
I found this unopened 10′ x 30′ garden cover which could work to keep squash bugs away. My plan this year did NOT work so I’ll try this one next year.
These vintage colored gel pens weren’t a screaming hot deal but they were half their retail price and not something I would have bought full price.
We use a ton of these lids – wide mouth and regular mouth. I store leftovers in jars with plastic lids. I buy big bags of dog and cat food, as well as treats, and vacuum seal it in half gallon jars (with metal lids and rings). Once I open the jar, I use a plastic lid on the jar. This also wasn’t a screaming hot deal but it was a few dollars saved.
This planner also isn’t a super deal but for $4, it’s half price. I’m going to do a blog post about my planners but I think this one will work great for me.
These 5 x 8 writing pads caused me to question whether I should get them or not. A six pack is $5.50 regular so they were only a $1.50 savings but I bought 5 six packs of them so I saved $7.50. I was already there, I will use them . . why not? I use this type pad for everything. I keep one in each car. I keep several in the kitchen. I keep them in the project bags for projects I take with me to the sit and sew; I keep one in my purse. I have several that I glue magnets onto and keep them on the fridges and freezers and write down things I put in there – just foods that are prepared. The fridge would have something like Hamburger Steak and Gravy; Sweet Potato Leaves in Greens, etc. In the freezer I list the frozen dishes I would take out, defrost and heat up for a meal. I recently put in Pasta Sauce & Meatballs, Baked Ziti, Sweet Potato Leaves and meatballs.
I keep a highlighter or pen on a magnet on each fridge/freezer and mark out things as I use them. These magnetic holders are great for holding pens on the freezer. I also use those on my magnifying lamp for holding a stylus (for marking off where I’ve stitched using MarkUp or Pattern Keeper), as well as a pen.
I think that’s all I got. It wasn’t crowded in there so Vince and I went our separate ways and would show the other if we found something we thought the other would like, or something we might want for the house. We both enjoyed it.

I recently got a Danish dough whisk with a package of boule baskets. I tried it for mixing bread dough and cookies. I was impressed with its practicality, with minimal “technology”. I think I would like to go to a pallet store, once or twice. They seem like a garage sale or flea market type affair.

That’s pretty much what it is. It’s best when you can maintain some level of self-control. Vince has this idea that if something is a bargain, he HAS to get it whether it’s something he has a zero chance of using or something we may have to step over in the garage for the rest of our days. I enjoy going every now and then – like twice a year – not every week! 🙂

Kaycee continues to be terrified of the desk door bell I bought. What is it with those bells??

I think it’s so weird how terrified they can be of things I know have never caused them any problems. I would think if it’s just something new and different, they would get used to it. The one we just bought has three different volumes. It was set to the loudest and Oscar didn’t like it and wanted to pull it off the post and destroy it but turned down to the lowest volume, he has no problem with it. Makes me wonder if the shrill ring hurt his ears.
