Today was so busy but we had fun. I think I’ll be in bed early tonight.
I had my annual dermatology appointment this morning. Only three spots on my face that were “pre-cancer” that got frozen or burned. She says frozen but it feels like burning to me. Afterwards Vince asked me if I wanted to eat at Magic Noodle. That’s one of my favorite places so I never say no to that offer. We ate there, then we went to Sam’s Club to get lamb chops. They were out of lamb chops but I had several things in my online cart so I found those things in the store, Vince needed a few things so he got those. From there we went to Menard’s. I had a couple of things I wanted to get there; Vince can always find things he needs from there. We got home, got everything put away and I made 7 pints of strawberry rhubarb jam. That will give us enough rhubarb jam to last us til next year’s crop – between the first batch and this batch of strawberry rhubarb and the one batch of blueberry rhubarb I made a couple of weeks ago.
Once I got the jam out of the canner, I went outside to water the garden – the plants that were out of the direct sun at that point. Vince came out and said “Let’s go pick blueberries and blackberries!” Ugh! I was kinda tired and looking forward to sitting and stitching. The berry farm opened for picking at 5 and we got there about 5:30 and stayed til almost 7. We picked about 13 pounds of blackberries and 7 pounds of blueberries. Vince said “Just leave them in the fridge til tomorrow.” NO! The blackberries were getting crushed because they were in two bags – one bag had 7 pounds and one had 6 pounds. I ended up putting 2 cups of blackberries in zipper bags. I think there were 16 or 17 bags! I kept out 2 bags – one for a blackberry cobbler tomorrow and one for just snacking. Then I took half the blueberries, poked holes in them so I can freeze dry them, spread them on a tray to freeze. I took 6 cups out of the other half, put them in a bag for making blueberry jam tomorrow, and kept the rest of those out for snacking.
That’s all put away. I still have to go upstairs and mix up vanilla ice cream for the Creami so we can have homemade ice cream to go with our cobbler tomorrow!
I hope tomorrow isn’t nearly as busy as today was. I stirred up some overnight oats for breakfast for tomorrow, I have to make the blueberry jam and . . it’s Food Truck Friday in Carthage. I would LOVE to go there but I don’t think Vince wants to and since we ate at Magic Noodle today, we’ll probably skip Food Truck Friday and grill something at home. We’ll see!
