As far as I can remember, I’ve never had a day so full of mistakes as I had yesterday. It went from frustrating to comical. The good news is that I didn’t cut or tear a hole in the linen. Every time I have to rip stitches, no matter what tool I use to rip, I always fear making a hole.
First, the bees – I looked at the called for colors and decided there wasn’t enough contrast for them to look like bees so I used other colors and, I felt like they looked like roaches so I ripped those out. There are supposed to be five bees so that was how many I had stitched. Then I went with the called for and re-stitched all five and there wasn’t enough contrast so I ripped those out, decided use the first colors I had chosen and just stitched three bees. I was tired of stitching them.
Second – the 2024 box – I counted the stitches and was leaving two spaces between each number. I didn’t count the number of spaces that were available to use. I stitched the 4, left two spaces, stitched the 2 and then the 0 and realized because of the spacing and the shape of the 2 and the 4, it looked like more spaces between the 2 and 4 than between the others so I ripped that out and only left 1 space between the 2 and the 4. Finished stitching and was too close to the skep so I ripped it all out out and re-stitched it leaving 1 space between each number.
Third – the initial box – I had planned and the chart showed starting that box the same number of spaces from the side and having the same amount of background box as the 2024 but JLL is way shorter than 2024 so I had to rip all that out and instead of leaving one space for the background box on the left and right sides, I stitched it to leave three spaces on each end.
My plans for stitching this afternoon/evening:
- Finish the divider under the middle row of letters.
- Stitch the bees’ wings
- Fill in behind JLL
- Finish filling in the every other border stitch.
I do hope to get this finished today.

Judy, it’s lovely! Your bees will be perfect when they get their wings. It sure is frustrating when we have those days where everything goes wrong. Hang in there, you are nearly at the finish line!!

You may have noticed this already, but you are missing a few stitches to the left of the Y…No Bees looks amazing though! I love it!

The only thing I see missing to the left of the Y are the bee’s wings. Is there more? Thanks!

What about the top horizontal line on the skep?

Thanks! I had stitched it between taking the picture and writing the blog post. I’ll post a picture when I think I’m 100% done and you eagle eye readers can please double check it for me. 🙂

Sorry it’s been a pain – but it’s turning out so pretty. Really love the color combination.
