The garage fridge has died . . not totally dead yet but for all practical purposes, it might as well be gone. The temp inside the fridge is 56 degrees. The freezer part still works but the fridge is 21 years old so we’re probably not going to try to fix it.
For at least two weeks before we left to go out of town, I kept complaining about milk and cream and sour cream. They were going bad way before their expiration dates. I kept thinking the quality of those items was going down but yesterday while working outside, I grabbed a bottle of water and it was NOT cold. We had just bought a package of chicken breasts and they had been in there a couple of hours so I took them out and the temp of the meat was 55 degrees. We put a fridge thermometer in there and it was 55 degrees and today it was 56 degrees. We had a good bit of cheese in there so we tossed all that. We had a loaf of bread, water, a few sodas and we kept those but pretty much everything else got tossed.
I think we’re going to get this fridge. It’s 20 cubic feet without a freezer – all fridge! It’s garage ready. We can get a fridge/freezer (on top) that’s about the same size total for a bit less but it’s fridge space we’re always short on. The local appliance store has the fridge for the same price as Lowe’s but they say eight weeks to get it and by that time, it will probably be the middle of July before we can get it. Lowes can have it here by June 2 or, if we get a regular fridge/freezer, we can get it next week.
Vince can make the final decision. I prefer the fridge without a freezer . . I’m going to miss that fridge in the garage!

We just had to get a new washing machine and the delivery date for the one we wanted was at least three months out. I said that I’m not going to the laundromat so we ended up with a different one. I sure do miss my old one.

Isn’t it crazy? When we got our new appliances two years ago, we had to wait about a year for the stove and dishwasher. Thankfully, we were replacing what was here and the old ones were still working or I would had to have bought whatever I could get. I surely wouldn’t want to go to the laundromat for three months and then, who knows if three months will become four months and then five months and then you end up getting something different just to get something!

My frig “died” a week and a half ago! I kept thinking things weren’t as cold, a bit of frost in the freezer….but the kicker was ice cream (the good stuff) that turned to soup. A quick scramble and stressful trip to the store and we had a new frig/freezer in two days. We threw away 7 bags of food from the old one as I was too afraid to keep anything that was in there- not worth the possibility of getting sick. The old one lasted almost 32 years and I am certain I will not get anywhere close to that with the new one. Of course, I won’t last that long either 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day to you – I love reading your blog-

Goodness, I was happy mine lasted 21 years! I fully don’t expect the new one to last that long and, like you, 21 years from now, a fridge is probably not going to be a concern.
Happy Mother’s Day to you too.
