I understand that no everyone has a desire to garden, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t think I’ve told this story on here before but I’ve thought about it so maybe I have. On our way to town, there’s a mobile home part and the mobile homes are pretty close and there isn’t much space but at one that I can see from the road, they’ve brought in soil and built up a little raised bed. It’s maybe 14′ x 14′. They have corn that looks really nice! The little garden is full and they have things growing in containers too. I’m so impressed every time I pass that little garden. I have more plants than I need and I wanted to stop to see if they want some of them but Vince said . . leave them alone!!
My little garden is looking pretty good too.
We have three beds of garlic. I have never had garlic grown this tall. I’m hoping it isn’t going to be huge, tall stalks and no bulbs but we’ll see in a little over a month.
That’s another garlic bed. I’m not sure if there’s perspective enough for you to see how tall it is but it’s way taller than I think it should be and that’s making me nervous. It’s the same garlic I always grow. I save it from one year to the next so it isn’t like it’s a giant type of garlic. Another weird thing! 🙂
My rhubarb is doing great. I’ve made rhubarb crisp several times already.
These are Lillian’s Caseload Peas. I love these peas but have a hit and miss record with growing them.
They’re blooming and there are some tiny little peas on them so I’m hopeful I’ll get a few meals off them.
My potatoes are doing great in the bags. Never count your chickens before they hatch or . . your potatoes before they’re dug but I’m hopeful.
There’s cabbage and squash growing on the retaining wall. Check out those gorgeous elderberries behind them. They’re starting to bloom. And, the peonies in front. They’ve been beautiful but the rain has made a mess of them.
There are peppers in these bags. All kinds of peppers. You can see the walking onions behind the peppers and in the bed next to the onions is the final garlic bed. Once the garlic is harvested, by mid-June, I’ll plant purple hull peas in those beds.
This is my small bay leaf tree. I’ve told this story before but I had two nice size bay leaf trees in Louisiana and they froze in KY . . because I forgot to bring them in on a very cold night. Then I had been looking for more for a long time and found these in Abilene when we were living in Texas. I pampered them, moved them in the greenhouse on cold nights and back out on warm days. Then, one of them died. It looked dead. I tried pampering it but after winter was over, and spring was over and it still appeared to be dead, I threw it out in the woods. Several months later, I was on the RTV in the woods and noticed it was putting on new leaves. No pot, hardly any soil left on the roots. I hopped out of the RTV, grabbed it, put it in a pot of soil, cut it back about 4″ above the soil and began pampering it again. Today this tree is taller than I am! It almost caught back to the other tree. It’s maybe only 4″ shorter than the tree that never died. And, I know it wasn’t dead or it wouldn’t be alive today but it sure looked and acted dead.
This is my little “needs special attention” area. There are four black pots of grapes that we bought a couple of weeks ago and are going to try to grow. I’d love to have grapes but I’d really love to have the leaves for pickles and ferments.
The four little round cups have sweet potato slips that so far I haven’t found a place to plant or anyone who will take them.
There are three long pans of basil and one of lettuce.
There are 62 tomatoes planted and about 50 peppers. Let’s hope at least half of those survive and produce.

I’m very certain you’ll have grapes! I’ve lived in my house for 45 years now. The grape vines move around all the time but they grow wild and tall and produce tons. My house belonged to a Italian couple. The wife’s dad had to have been from Italy originally and made wine out of the grapes. I had a wine storage room in the basement when we moved in. I’d guess that the grapes will be more than fine. The birds also love the grapes and that’s why the vines keep coming no matter what I do! I hope you enjoy them
You’ll likely never need to buy another grape vine plant. Cheryl

Your garden looks great. I used to have a garden, but the deer around here eat it as fast as it comes up, so I just gave up. I’m not spending the money and time for a deer restaurant! I did plant 4 sweet pepper plants in one of the flowerbeds. Last summer the deer left the peppers alone, so I have my fingers crossed…
