For those who requested photos, here are some that I pulled from the blog. I will try to keep these in order as best as I can.
This first picture was taken within a few days of us catching her. You can see from her ears, she wasn’t totally comfortable being held. I had seen her in the driveway, called her and she ran away from me. I left food and water out and told Vince I had seen a Chihuahua. I was leaving to go to MO (from Texas) and the day or so after I left, he saw her. He put food out and she came for it. Then he tried getting her to eat out of his hand and she wouldn’t. He would sit on the porch and toss one piece of food to her at a time, hoping she would get close enough that he could grab her but she didn’t. He ended up catching her in a life trap.
This picture is when she had been at our house in Texas for a month or so. She was getting more comfortable with us but she still preferred to be left alone and outside til dark.
This picture is after we had her for about three years. We had gone to my uncle’s for Christmas in 2017 and we took Rita. We had Boots but a neighbor took care of him while we were away. At this point, Rita was our only dog. She was such a cute little girl.
Not sure when this one was taken but she was snoozing in her bed.
This was still in Texas when she would sit with Vince in his chair.
This one was taken not long after we had to have her eyes removed due to glaucoma. We were able to use drops for a couple of years. During that time, we had to go to a vet in Abilene (2 hours away) once a month to get the pressure checked. After a few years, her eyes were in danger of rupturing and she had been blind for a while, so the vets were recommending having the eyes removed. It sounds horrible but it was such an easy surgery and she never seemed to be in pain. Since she was already blind, I don’t think it was as terrible for her as it sounds.
In Texas, during the winter, she loved sleeping in front of the fireplace when there was a fire. When we moved to Texas, I always worried that she would be cold so I got these padded heating pads for dogs.
In this one, we were in a hotel and she was in her little bed snoozing, seemingly not concerned about anything.
For those of you who heard about Rita but never saw her, now you’ll feel more like you knew her too. She was a sweet girl but never wanted to be close.

Hope this doesn’t post twice – thought I pressed the comment, but, it went back to this screen. Rita was precious and I know she knew she was loved and cared for by y’all.

Don’t ever worry about a comment posting twice. If I see two, I delete one but if I don’t see it, that’s not a problem. We all do it.

Was it Rita that was such a good traveler? I had forgotten about that, but it seems you had a pet that would fall asleep in the car (like my stepson when he was about 10 years old).

Rita and Speck were both good travelers. Cooper isn’t bad, considering his age. Oscar – a basket case in the car.

She was very blessed to have you and Vince and the great care and love you gave her!
