It was back in February that Denise came up with the idea for the April Fool’s Day start. I wrote about my plans here. I bought the chart and copied it to a PDF so I could work from a tablet. I ordered Vikki Clayton’s silks and never got around to deciding what fabric I would use. I had been saying for a week that I needed to figure out which fabric to use so yesterday evening I started going through my linen. I ended up having to take a project off a frame . . again . . because this piece needed a wider piece of linen and I only had one frame that was that long. It seems so counterproductive to remove something from a frame that isn’t finished but . . it’s that or buy more frames and I’m not going to do that.
The hardest part for me about starting a new project is deciding on a linen and getting it on a frame. The next hardest part is actually starting to stitch it so last night I told myself it was ok to take a few stitches so this morning I could just pick up where I left off and not have to find a starting spot so . . that’s what I did.
I was going to fill in the heart and I don’t have all the colors. I’m not sure how that happened. I’m betting that someone sent Vikki Clayton the list of floss and part of it was left off so if you’ve ordered the packet of floss from Vikki, you may need to add more floss. I ordered it last night and should have it . . well, it will come through USPS so it will be here when it gets here. There’s so much stitching on this piece, there’s plenty I can do while waiting.
What I plan to do is work the outline of the border all the way around and I have the floss I need for that. This will be the largest piece I’ve ever stitched so let’s hope I can get it done by the end of this year.
Anyone else starting an April Fool’s Day project.

I’m starting mine today on 18 ct. Oatmeal using DMC. I’m thinking I should do 20 or 22 ct. I’m doing the “Symphony of Friendship” as well.

Where are you starting? I started at the top right and haven’t used too many colors but so far, it’s so pretty! I calculated to see how big it would be on 36 count linen, which is the same size as 18 count Aida, right?? I had one piece of line I almost used and it was 36 count. It was only going to be about an inch wider if I went from 40 count to 36 count, if I’m remembering correctly.

I started in the middle and my next color is for the bluebird. We should end up having the same size when complete. There is a scary amount of leaves but I love this pattern.

You’re right. Once I get to the part where I know where the leaves go, I’m going to try to do some every day so I don’t end up having to do a million of them just to get it finished. I’m planning to do the borders first, then I think I’ll do the tree, then the birds since the birds will probably be the most fun.
