Yesterday I made two loaves (really, they’re boules but I just call them loaves) of sourdough. I’m impressed with my new starter. I had heard on a youtube that adding a few tablespoons of rye to the starter really makes it crazy active but Chad said he read that using rye can introduce harmful organisms. Not sure which is correct so I’m keeping a “pure” starter with just white flour and another with a bit of rye. So far, the rye is way more active than the pure starter.
We loved the roasted garlic sourdough that I made for us to try so I made another to take to Chad’s and then I made a second one with not so much garlic and a good bit of fresh rosemary. The rosemary loaf smells so good!
With two starters going, I know where this is headed . . we’re going to be eating too much bread! I wish I could give up meat and vegetables and just eat bread!

Yummm…I have some of your starter from Texas. Would you like some?

I forgot that I had sent you some of that or I would have hollered at you. I might have driven down to get it! 🙂
Thanks but I have one going now. I need to get some of this new one dried before I lose it!

I love bread, too! At least you are eating healthy bread!

Yes, it is healthy as far as bread goes but I’m afraid the amount I eat may be closer to the unhealthy side. 🙂

I’ve used fmf rye for years. No one has died yet (that I know of). lol.. Every now and agai I strengthen my starter but doing 2 12 hr apart feedings of 1:5:5, but only perhaps 2-3X year.

Those sourdough loaves are beautiful, and I can only imagine how yummy they are. I went to a quilt retreat this weekend and one of the ladies brought her homemade sourdough bread for us to enjoy. The loaves were not nearly so pretty, but it was very tasty.

Oh those look delicious! I may need to do some bread baking myself since I haven’t done that in a long time. Beautiful!

The problem with baking it is that we eat it! 🙁

-At least you have someone to share it with. My husband just doesn’t think of bread (unless it’s got lots of garlic on it). Those loaves have my mouth watering!!

Really? I thought everyone loved bread. Vince and I both will eat too much so we have to be careful and I have to sometimes limit how much I make.
