I’ve been thinking if I had a project on aida, I could stitch that without the magnifying lamp if we were traveling or if the power was out. I’ve purchased a couple of pieces of aida and wanted to try using it. On the 21st – 25th of each month, I want to work on holiday stitching and the 26th – the end of the month, I’m working on Prairie Schooler projects, and with February being a short month (because I have a Leap year project to start on the 29th), I decided to combine holiday and Prairie Schooler into one project. I’m stitching Reindeer Roundup from February 21 – 28.
I started stitching it on 18 count aida and I am not loving it. I will stick with it because sometimes it takes me a while to get used to something. I’m using the Sulky 12 wt. floss and it’s probably a bit thick for this fabric. I love the chart so I’m going to stick with it.
I know . . two days and that’s as far as I’ve gotten but Wednesday, we went out . . why did we go out . . Oh . . the fish truck was in Carthage and then Vince wanted to stop at the library, Aldi, Walmart and Lowe’s. We ended up working out in the yard after we got home. Then yesterday I spent a big chunk of the day working on the sourdough. Today, a big chunk of time will be spent making the bread to take to Chad’s.
The good news, and what may make me end up liking aida, is that even the 18 count, I can see to stitch on it without a magnifying lamp, so long as there is good light.
I had planned to stitch the Leap Year project on aida but that’s a big project and I think I shouldn’t start it on aida just in case I don’t fall in love with aida. We’ll see . . I have a few more days before I have to make a decision on that one.

My feeling is that more traditional charts are better on linen and aida works better for more modern/whimsical charts. Not hard and fast by any means. I mainly stitch on linen but occasionally there is a chart that just calls out for aida.

I was thinking that I would do smaller things on Aida, mostly things I can take with me and stitch without a light. I really don’t even notice when looking at something if it was stitched on aida or linen, especially on the higher count aida. But, I think linen will be my favorite.

Thanks. So far I’m not loving aida but if that changes, I’ll let you know.
