I rarely use storebought flour but I still have some and I mostly use it to dust containers before baking and to dust the countertop before rolling out dough. I was out upstairs and I went downstairs to get a refill of my flour container. All my grains and baking type goods are stored in 5 gallon buckets. I saw a bucket right up front — easy to reach and on the side was written “AP Flour”. I thought . . that’s weird that it’s in front since I so rarely use it but I grabbed it and started scooping it into my container. I thought . . that does not look like flour. It looked grainy. I felt it and it felt grainy but . . it said AP flour so it must be AP flour. I decided I’d better taste it . . it tasted like baking soda.
I dumped it all back in and was baffled because I don’t have big containers of baking soda. I walked to the other side of the stack to see if I saw another bucket with AP Flour on it. When I got to the other side and glanced over at it, I saw “Laundry Detergent”. That explains why it was grainy and I guess it explains why it tasted like baking soda.
I have now erased “AP Flour” from the side of that bucket. Can you imagine if I hadn’t been paying attention and dusted that on my counter before rolling out my bread dough??

Thanks! I always think I’m doing great when I label those buckets but this isn’t the first time I’ve come across a bucket with more than one label on it! I must slow down and pay more attention.
