I had been expecting Oscar to behave by the time he was a year old so I was pretty disappointed in December, 2022 when he turned one and was still wild and crazy as ever. Several of you told me . . nope, wait til he’s two or even three. I wasn’t sure I would make it that long but almost the day he turned 2, he suddenly seemed grown up and mature. Leave something out that he can shred and he will do it but he doesn’t go looking for something to shred. He doesn’t tear up furniture just because he has nothing else to do. He doesn’t pull down books off the book case and pull pages out of them or chew the corners of the books. He and Cooper will get a little rambunctious.
Cooper has never been as destructive as Oscar was but maybe that’s because he has Oscar to chew on and romp with. When I leave the room to go upstairs to cook or do laundry, and I know I’ll be back in half an hour or so, I leave Oscar loose downstairs. Cooper still gets put in his crate. Oscar will sit on the ottoman, the entire time I’m gone and watch for me to come down the stairs. Vince had to go downstairs this morning to get something and he came back up and said “Do you know Oscar is loose?” I said “Yes, I leave him out when I’m going to be back down in a few minutes.” Vince didn’t think that was a good idea. I told him I’d been doing it for several months. Vince went back down to check on him a couple of times and he was fine. Vince said “Did you ever think you could leave Oscar unattended?” No, for a while, I thought it was never going to happen.
It was a rough two years with Oscar but he’s a really good boy now . . with a little supervision. 🙂

Had to laugh about Oscar – he’s now become a ‘teen’, who still needs occasional supervision but overall is nearly there! How wonderful you have Cooper, too – to keep Oscar busy and focused and to keep Cooper busy & focused on Oscar. Even more fun when they play and rough house, huh? I love reading your blog every time, and love hearing the news about your ‘boys’! Thank you for sharing! Deb
