I never seem to get enough black pepper. Before writing this post, I googled “Can you be addicted to black pepper”? A couple of mornings ago, we had oatmeal for breakfast and, except that Vince would have thought I was crazy, I wanted to put black pepper in my oatmeal. I didn’t do it.
I’ve mentioned that there’s a co-op (of sorts) for buying vanilla beans – Indri’s Vanilla Bean Group. I don’t know how often they offer the peppercorns last year they offered them and I got 10 oz. and split them with Chad. I hadn’t tried them – waiting to empty the peppercorns that were in my grinder. When I tried them, I couldn’t believe how delicious they were. I can’t stop wanting more pepper!
No affiliation but if you love black pepper, you may want to try these. They have a special going on now. It does say that it takes 4 – 6 months for them to ship. I would be very sad if I ran out of these!
On a pepper topic, I’ve always terribly disliked white pepper. While watching a cooking video a month or so ago, someone said something like . . be careful with the white pepper you buy. Some is awful. I wondered if I had always had awful white pepper so I ordered some from Azure and got it with my last order. What a difference! I will always love black pepper more than white pepper but this white pepper is good! Who knew there was gross white pepper and good white pepper?

I love their peppercorns! A couple of years ago, they did Ceylon cinnamon sticks. They were really good.
Welcome to their rabbit hole! (They are the sweetest people, too.)

I just found them within the last year or so. I’ll be watching for Ceylon cinnamon sticks! Thank you!

They had lots of drama and spoilage, so they said they probably wouldn’t do it again. (That was the first time they’d offered cinnamon.)

I can understand why they wouldn’t want to do it again then. Thanks for letting me know so I won’t get my hopes up of finding them.

I love, love steel cut oats with butter, sometimes a little olive oil, salt, and black pepper (lots). I had always cooked them with fruit and spice with honey or maple syrup (which I still love) until I watched a cooking show where they made them as a savory dish. I tried them without all the sweet additions and I was hooked. So, I would encourage you to try it.

Thank you for confirming that I’m not crazy for wanting pepper in my oats! 🙂

I have a savory oatmeal recipe that intrigues me, but it seems like a dinner side dish. I’ve never thought of it at meal planning time, but this reminds me: I should try it!

I think I’m going to try a savory oatmeal recipe too but I’ll probably sub cracked barley for oatmeal.

Another way we are scarily alike – which will again make Vince say “you two aren’t right.” 🙂 If I could only have one spice it would be pepper. I was just starting a crockpot of split pea soup, added pepper, thought is that enough? And added more because you can seldom have too much pepper for my tastes.
