How did we get to this point? Oscar will only eat if his bowl is on the sofa and he’s sitting on my lap. I’ve always said they (kids or dogs) would eat when they get hungry and that’s true but Oscar will whine and cry and run in and bump me with his nose, run back to his food bowl, back to bump my leg, bark, drive us crazy so, being the ineffective dog mom I am, I just bring his bowl to the sofa.
It isn’t that he wants protection from Cooper eating his food because Cooper gets fed in the bathroom so there’s no arguing over food.
This is something Oscar has been doing for about a month. Vince hadn’t seen it before today and he looked over at us and said ‘What’s up with THIS??” I said . . yes, he now has to be on my lap with his food on the sofa.

How strange…wonder what triggered that? We rescued a puppy mill breeder mini-schnauzer when we lived in CO. She did this thing where she would walk around and around the food bowl (it had food in it all the time) and push it down with her nose over and over again. My guess is that she sometimes went hungry and she was trying to hide it. She was a very sweet dog but very damaged emotionally…the six or so years she lived with us were way better than the six years of having puppies over and over again. When the puppies stopped being healthy, they got rid of her. Just an aside, our male schnauzer loved to jump into my husband’s lap when he was holding her (he did that all the time)…he would jump up and sit on Muffin’s head. I didn’t know that male dogs could be male chauvinists, too!

No comment about the chauvinist! 🙂
That’s sad that people do so much damage to their dogs just for profit.
Oscar has gotten so clingy just the last month. I cannot even go to the bathroom without him flipping out.

Pat–our first schnauzer who we got as a puppy did that same thing, circling her food dish, pushing the food with her nose. And she came from a reputable breeder as an eight week old puppy–must be the breed??

One of our 3 doxies will bark at my husband to pick her up and bring her to the kitchen to eat. Another one won’t eat all her food. She saves a snack to eat after the last walk of the day and before bed. The third just doesn’t care, he just wants food. Oh and they have to have chicken broth mixed with their can and dry food.

Please say that quietly because I’d hate for these to expect chicken broth with their food! 🙂
Aren’t they so funny!

Too funny! Oscar loves your company!

And the reason I quit trying with pets! lolo I loved them, my kids loved them but hubby did not. They dug holes in his back yard! lolo Now all kids are married with families of their own and the animals I cannot even begin to tell you. But I’ve finally overcome with help from upstairs to get over my fear of dogs. I had to when I baby sat the grands in their homes. I love the animals but right now just me and hubby! lolo They say a habit begins after 21 occurances, so 21 times try to get up while he into the food, start putting it beside you. lolo Hope someone has the answer. Hugs from Louisiana!

I’ve started just bringing his bowl to the sofa. Today, when I would say “Time to eat” and take Cooper to the bathroom to eat, Oscar would perch himself on the sofa and wait for me to bring his bowl. Maybe he’s been watching Vince. 🙂

Vince still doesn’t read your blog, eh?

No. He does not.
