These two dachshunds play so hard! Up until this week, I was constantly supervising. I wouldn’t even try to stitch until they were napping or Vince was down in the basement with me to help watch them. They play so rough but a couple of days ago, I figured . . Cooper is six months old. He is always the one who starts trouble. He’s much bigger than he was when we got him but still nowhere near the size of Oscar so I thought . . I’m going to stitch and let them have at it. It’s always Oscar who squeals when Cooper bites too hard. I’ve never heard Cooper cry out and since Cooper has lost most of the razor teeth, Oscar hasn’t cried out in a while.
I was sitting on the sofa stitching and would glance over at them . . kinda always aware of what was going on but not giving them my undivided attention. I kept thinking they would get tired and one of them would go to their crate and the other would do the same. No, for probably three hours, they didn’t stop. I took Cooper out at least twice during that time and he couldn’t wait to get back inside to play with Oscar.
These pictures are so blurry because they wouldn’t stop moving. I took 47 pictures and they were all blurry.
You can see Cooper’s teeth. He always has his mouth open . . ready to bite.
There’s Cooper with his mouth open again! 🙂 See . . Oscar is trying to be a good boy!
They were getting tired and I was about to pick Cooper up and put him in his crate and when I said his name, they both almost stopped and I got this picture.
See how Oscar always looks so serious and Cooper looks like he’s thinking . . Let’s get this party started! You can see that Cooper wasn’t completely still because one ear is still moving!
Once they’ve played hard for a few hours, they are both worn out and calm the rest of the night . . calm as long as Vince is holding Coop and I’m holding Oscar. Let them both on the floor and it all starts again.
They are a handful but they are so much fun!

It’s good for their health and yours! It helps keep you happy to see them playing together, and being happy helps the blood pressure, among other things! 🙂 Good reason to keep them! 🙂

I know our Bubba would do great with a playmate (he’s an English Springer Spaniel who`s 7 months old), but hubby can’t handle two rambunctious dogs. Sigh.
I love seeing and hearing about them. Thanks for sharing.

It is hard some days. Our dogs stay in the basement and I pretty much stay in the basement too. Vince spends more time upstairs – I think he needs more peace and quiet than I do but I think he’s still happy to have both of them. I felt like getting a playmate for Oscar was a good idea but I’m not so sure he’s thrilled with Cooper. They do have fun playing but they aren’t as close as I had hoped. I think Cooper’s sharp teeth have Oscar always afraid to get too close so hopefully, as Cooper calms down, they will get to be better buddies.
