Denise had mentioned a Leap Year Project and then I mentioned it on here. I had a couple of charts I thought would be good ones but hadn’t decided for sure. Then Denise decided to stitch the Summer Schoolhouse Series as one piece. I’ve talked my friend, Pat, into stitching it too. It didn’t take much arm twisting! 🙂
There are four charts and they are currently available here but they are charted to be stitched as four separate pieces – pillows mostly I think. The photos are much better, of course, on the linked website.
Sheri from Colorado Cross Stitcher stitched them all as one. I think she mentioned that she had seen someone else do it on Instagram. You can see Sheri’s in this flosstube starting about 39:00.
If anyone would like to stitch along with us on this Leap Year project, we’ll be starting on February 29. Denise will finish hers . . I probably will not so . . whether you’re a finisher or a starter, play along with us if you’d like.
I am not even sure how I will put these pieces together – something similar to what Sheri did but not exactly. I have some thoughts and I will share some of them as it gets closer to time to stitch this. I don’t want to make plans too far ahead because I’m not going to spend a lot of time re-charting all this. Mostly what I’ll have to change will be some border placement. Sometimes my plans work out like I think they will and sometimes they don’t.
I’ve added up the width of all the pieces and, if my math is correct, it’s 402 stitches. I want to add a border on the right hand side and I think that will take a bit less than 30 extra stitches, including spaces between the motifs and the border. I’m going to add another 30 spaces in case I need to add stitches between the four sections. I don’t think there are many needed but I’d rather have space I don’t use than not have space I need.
The tallest pieces is 106 stitches tall and I’m going to add 30 stitches to that . . just in case, since I’m kinda going out on my own here.
So, for calculating for fabric, I’m going to calculate for 462 wide and 136 tall. The called for fabric is 28 count lugana, stitched 1 over 1.
Here are some calculations for different size fabrics. NOTE: These sizes allow for a 3″ margin/border on all four sides. I don’t usually leave that much but I’m a bit nervous about not leaving that much on this piece.
28 count lugana, 1 over 1 – 22-1/2″ x 11″
26 count lugana, 1 over 1 – 24-1/2″ x 11-1/2″
46 count linen, 1 over 2 – 26″ x 12″
40 count linen, 1 over 2 – 29″ x 13″
36 count linen, 1 over 2 – 31-1/2″ x 13-1/2″
22 count aida, 1 over 1 – 27″ x 12″
20 count aida, 1 over 1 – 29-1/2:” x 13″
18 count aida, 1 over 1 – 31-1/2″ x 13-1/2″
I will either use 22 count aida, 40 count linen or 46 count linen and IF I use all those extra spaces, which I don’t think I will, the stitched area will be 20-1/8″ x 5-7/8″ and 23-1/8 x 6-3/4″ if I use 40 count linen.
I do have a large piece of 25 count lugana. I may make a few 1 over 1 stitches on that just to see how it looks. I’d like to use that piece for something.
Now I’m excited for February 29 to get here!

That’s really pretty the way Sheri put them all together and the colors are beautiful! Unfortunately, I have way more projects that will never get done. I can’t wait to see yours finished!

I’ve had these charts in my stash for quite a while and I’d really like to do them as one long piece. Have you seen contented_needleworker_kim version? Here’s a link https://www.instagram.com/p/Byaro0whdx6/
It a little different from Colorado Stitcher’s but both are pretty… gonna have to do some calculations as I’d like to do it on 32 ct linen…
I think this is going to be another BIG sampler for me… not that I need another BIG sampler but I sure love them!

Thank you SO much for sharing that. I knew that someone said someone else had done one but I hadn’t had a chance to look for it. I like how Kim did the border on the right. I was wanting to do that. Also, since the fourth (far right) chart is much shorter, that’s where Sheri added a verse. I was thinking about moving things up and spreading them out a bit on that one because, to me, some of the flowers and birds look a bit crowded. I think where Kim stitched “Remember me, I may make that vine between 3 and 4 that she has branching to the left . . I may make that branch to the left and right a bit but not be all the way across either block.
Seeing that one helped me a lot. Thanks again for sharing it here.

Hi Judy… I left a comment last night but it might have gone to spam because I included a link…anyway I want to do this as one long sampler. I have the charts and floss… if you have a chance check out the_contented_stitcher_kim on IG… June 7,2019… I like her version of this a lot. I don’t need to start another BIG sampler but I want to start this one…
