I’ve been a subscriber to Punch Needle & Primitive Stitcher magazine for a while. I had a subscription, then when it was time to renew, I decided not to do it . . probably one of those money saving decisions . . but then the next issue came out and there were several things I wanted to stitch so I subscribed again. It’s rare that there aren’t several items in there that I want to stitch and there are always several punch needle pieces I would like to make but I’ve never tried punch needle.
In the Christmas, 2021 issue, has a Barbara Anna Designs project called Dancer. (The link is to Colorado Cross Stitcher and they’re out of the chart. I checked two other shops and they are out also. Hopefully it’s available somewhere if anyone wants it.) When the Christmas, 2021 issue came out, I remember thinking Dancer was cute but those aren’t the kinds of designs I usually want to stitch.
Then, fast forward to yesterday and I watched three different flosstubes that all showed Dancer finished. He is adorable! On 40 count, it will finish at 4″ x 4-3/8″. On 36 count, it will be 5-1/8″ x 4-3/8″. I’m not going to go digging for fabric now but I feel certain I should have something in 36 count or 40 count that will work. The design, and the three I saw yesterday were all stitched on various shades of gray but I’m wondering how a grayish shade of green would work. I know I have a piece of that.
I went back and saved the chart in Pattern Keeper. I believe Dancer will be started and hopefully finished before Christmas, 2024.

I do punch needle and do love it. Not a bit hard. In fact I just started with a small pattern and just did it. Followed the basic directions. My Mother and I did some together for a while.
Try it you will find it easier than cross stich. Did you ever do any rug hooking? It is much the same as that just smaller. Now I want to do some needle felting. Have not tried that as I am not good with three dimensional things.

I haven’t done rug hooking in several years. I will probably use my rug hooking frame for the punch needle. I need to just do it.

I have loved that Dancer chart since the first day I saw it in the magazine. I got it all kitted up right away…and I still haven’t started it!!

Want to stitch it with me?
Toni says
Ohhh, I might! I’m not always very good with SALs…and plans…and goals…when do you think you would want to start?
judy.blog@gmail.com says
No idea. I want to spend at least the Christmas stitching days in January working on Farmhouse Christmas. Maybe we could start it in March or June or any time really. You pick a time and don’t worry about not being good with SALs. I can’t tell you the last time I kept up with one . . maybe never. For me SAL means “Start Along”. That’s the best I can do!

Hi, Judy. Keepsakes in Cincinnati is my LNS. When this chart first came out, a group of ladies who stitch together there decided to do a SAL. I said I would, too, but all I did was kit it up. I think they all finished theirs. LOL! If you ever decide to start it, let me know. It would probably be best to email me. Thanks, Toni

OK. I just did a post about kitting it up with Ginnie Thompson’s Flower Floss. I can start it whenever you want to start it. You pick a date.

They have Dancer in stock at 123 stitch.

Great. Thanks! It wasn’t in stock there either when I wrote the post.
