Ever since I pulled this project back out a couple of weeks ago, I’ve debated about the colors and the floss. This is what it looked like when I started back to stitching on it last week.
I wasn’t happy with the dog. The chart shows the dog with bright red (BRIGHT red) ears and then the stripes in what I assume is a blanket on his back were that same bright red and black. I thought maybe I wasn’t loving it because I was using one thread on a more open 36 count linen. I started stitching a second dachshund using two strands of floss and I didn’t like that at all. I ripped it out and switched to just a tad darker shade of brown and used a creamy tan for the ears. While there are red dachshunds (my first one was red), I don’t think there are BRIGHT red dachshunds so the creamy tan looked a little better and I was liking that so much better. I ripped out the first dachshund and re-stitched it.
In the picture, the ears look peach colored but they aren’t – they’re tan.
Also on the top row border, near the left, you will see where I’ve started doing some fill in work. The called for color there is a brighter peach but I changed it to a pink that I think goes better with the darker pink in the border.
For the blanket on the dogs’ backs, instead of making it black, I think I’m going to go with a light to medium shade of aqua.
I’m liking it much better than I was before.

It’s nice to be able to make it your own by customizing the colors. 🙂

It is. I’m enjoying doing that. I would like to totally customize colors on a bigger project some day but may never get that brave.
