It feels so good to be finished with this project. I love it and cannot wait to get it in the frame and on a wall. It is A Changed World by The Scarlett House
If you see anything I’ve missed or an error, please let me know.
I started this in August, 2021 and, even though some of these issues seem trivial, there were things that made it not so fun to stitch. I was fairly new to cross stitching in that I hadn’t stitched in well over 30 years, had never stitched on linen and had never stitched with silk floss.
Floss:
I’ve mentioned several times that I was not happy with the conversion. The chart lists floss for 100.3 and DMC. I didn’t want 100.3 but I wanted silk and I didn’t know about Vikki Clayton’s silks yet. I ordered a Soie d’Alger conversion and wasn’t happy with several of the colors but, being so inexperienced, I stitched a good bit before deciding I wasn’t happy with some of the colors so I put the project aside. Then I ordered a couple of replacement colors, then decided the red was too bright and pulled out everything that was red except the red in the corner motifs. Even though there are still a couple of colors I’m not happy with, I had stitched too much to take out, I’m happy enough with the overall piece and I love the sentiment.
Also, now that I’ve gotten so used to using Vikki Clayton’s silks on bobbins that fit neatly into a plastic bobbin case, I don’t love making floss tags. Oscar loves getting hold of a floss tag and he can shred it and ruin floss in an instant and I’m so afraid he’s going to swallow some and cause real problems for himself. I try my best to put all the floss back into a project bag and zip it closed before I walk away but I can see him eyeing a skein of floss from across the room . . just waiting for me to leave it unattended. So far, he has apparently not figured out that those little round cardboard disks contain floss.
Linen:
My preference is 40 count. This came in a kit and it’s 36 count. I would have preferred 40 but that’s not a big deal. The linen is Fox & Rabbit’s Baked Clay and I do love that color. It seems to be close to perfect in that many shades of tan and brown show up and yet white and very pale colors show up also. I wish I had more of this linen in my stash but . . I only have a couple of fat quarters.
I have the frame for this and as soon as I’ve looked at it for several days and am confident I haven’t made any mistakes or left any areas unstitched, I’ll get this in a frame.

Hi Judy,
I haven’t looked at the kit photo, but think you may have missed the bottom branches of the tree on LHS of the church. Also the eye on the LH black bird looks a bit strange, almost invisible. It’s a great finish after your trials with it!

I had a look at the pattern and the tree is correct.
Looks odd to me, also the fence not going all the way to the edge of the grass. No missing bits though 🙂

That is absolutely wonderful! I love the colors, designs and verse on this. Doesn’t “finished” feel great? I just finished quilting and binding a king-size quilt. DONE feels awesome tonight!
Merry Christmas to you, Vince and your family from Tamale Land!

Merry Christmas to you and you family. Thank you!
Yes, finished always feels so good. I should do it more. A king size quilt is quite an accomplishment. Is it a gift or for you?
And, it’s been way too long since I’ve had tamales from your part of the world. I miss those!

Glad to see that you’re back. To double check a piece I found that taking a photo and looking at it is easier to be objective and things show up better. Nice work, this is on my list.

True. Framing it and hanging it on the wall makes them stand out like a sore thumb! 🙂 Usually readers will see things I don’t see so I’m always happy when someone questions something they see on my projects.
