Some days the memories that show up on Facebook aren’t very memorable but today, there were many and some of them were really memorable.
When we were moving to Nevada, MO, Vince had to be there for the new job on January 1. Chad had to be there to start a new semester. We had planned our house hunting trip there for the first weekend in December, knowing we were pushing the limit to have a closing by January 1 but that was the only weekend we could go. Then, the forecast kept getting worse and worse. I wanted to wait and go the next weekend but Vince said . . no, we have to do it this weekend, so we went. It was about 9 p.m. when we got to the hotel. The roads were starting to get covered in ice so we decided to stop by Walmart and grab a few things we could eat in the room . . just in case it snowed as much as they said it would. During the night I kept getting up and looking out the window and there wasn’t any snow the last time I got up and checked but when we woke up that morning . . 20+ inches of snow had fallen and it was a mess. We had Speck with us and thank goodness some of the people at the hotel had snow shovels and several guys helped us dig a place where Speck could go outside. We didn’t get to see many houses that weekend but we found one and that was all we needed. When we were driving back to Kentucky, Vince said “Did the house we bought have brick on the back?” I said “I don’t know. We never went outside. We just looked at the inside!” I guess that prepared us for buying the house here that we never saw at all! 🙂
The other memory that was kinda memorable was that it was December 3, 2012 when I ate the hamburger at home and had an alpha gal reaction that night. I googled “hamburger, hives” and that’s how I finally figured out what I had and was able to work with an allergist in Austin who was familiar with it and I got a diagnosis. It’s funny/ironic that the first time I went to the ER with the hives, itching and throat constricting was in 2001 so it was 11 years of many trips to the ER before I was able to figure out what was causing it and that was 11 years ago today. And, here I am going through more “experiments” that might reveal more about the alpha-gal issues.
I thought those things were interesting.

I don’t have a lot of favorite things about Facebook but the memories is one of the good things they have. The alpha-gal issues are being more reported these days. I mentioned it to my niece awhile back when she was having some allergic issues. I’m glad I live out west where it’s not an issue….yet. Hope your food “experiment” helps you!

It’s definitely a crazy allergy and now that it’s causing gut issues and joint issues, it’s gotten even worse.

Had an acquaintance that went to the ER a few years ago with a severe allergy after a Saturday dinner. Hospital had no clue. His wife, a nurse, had no clue. I asked his mother in law what he had eaten. He had eaten steak. I had read one of your posts about alpha gal and told her that I bet that was it. Within a month, he was back in ER on a Saturday night, after eating steak. They figured it out that time. I have learned a lot from reading your blog.

I’m so glad you learned something beneficial but think how much worthless “stuff” you’ve learned from me! I’m sure those folks sure appreciated your suggestion.
