Sorry folks, but I had to share. Today Cooper is 4 months, 9 days old and for the first time, he rattled the gate to tell me he needs to go out. We generally take him out every half hour during the day so it’s rare that he has an accident in the house. In the mornings, I put Cooper in the bathroom with his food and a puppy pad. I take Oscar out, feed him, then take Rita out, feed her, then get Cooper out of the bathroom and take him out. He’ll sometimes do #1 on the pad – maybe once or twice a week but he seems to be learning the routine.
I tried jingle bells, a bell that you tap, several different things with Oscar but he decided rattling the gate was best for him so I was super happy that Cooper has picked up on that. I know once doesn’t mean we have a house trained dog but it’s a good start.
Oscar was completely trained by the time he was 5 months old. I would be thrilled if Cooper does the same but I won’t be disappointed if it takes him a little longer.
Cooper is so much easier to deal with than Oscar was at that age. Cooper isn’t high strung at all. He will sit and watch me cut his nails! He knows “NO” and he will stop in his tracks when I say it. He may go back to what he was doing but after I say NO a few times, he stops whatever he was doing . . usually.
Vince’s computer cord will not stay in his computer. Cooper looks for it to be on the floor and he grabs it and takes off with it. All I have to do is pick up the spray bottle. Both Oscar and Cooper can hear it when I pick it up and they will stop what they’re doing.
Love them both! Oscar has really gotten so much easier to deal with but he has a completely different personality from Cooper.

Is it too soon to have decided if Cooper has helped Oscar calm down a bit? Honestly, that little Cooper is just the perfect puppy! He is so darned cute, too! When Cooper is older, they are going to be so much easier, too!

I’m not sure if it’s just that Oscar is maturing as he gets closer to his second birthday or if Cooper has helped. Probably a little of both. I’m so thankful for Oscar being a bit calmer and sitting with me on the sofa without destroying things.
