Nicole posted a few pictures on Facebook and they almost made me cry. If you know me, everything makes me cry so it probably isn’t nearly as special to anyone else as it is to me.
In their town, they had either a Fall Festival or maybe it was just passing out candy on the square. I don’t think it was Halloween Day because it rained that day but . . they had it . . that’s all I know. Nicole had told me that Addie didn’t want to go trick or treating . . she wanted to pass out candy.
My grandpa would be so proud! This was his old truck that my uncle had meticulously restored. My uncle kept it for quite a few years and as he was starting to downsize, he told me he was planning on giving Chad the old truck. Then it was several years later that he told Chad he was going to give him the truck and he was ready to do it but Chad had to promise him he would keep it in a garage when not in use. Chad promised, cleaned out his garage to be sure he could get the truck and Nicole’s SUV in there, took a trailer and drove down to Louisiana to get it and bring it back to MO. I think that was two years ago. As far as I know, Chad has always kept it in the garage when they aren’t driving it. They take it to local car shows fairly often. I know my grandpa would be so happy with how Chad is caring for it, how much they love it and how often they show it off. They take it out usually on the weekends if it’s sunny. It has no heat or air conditioning and this weekend, they probably had a chilly ride!
And look at those three! I know I’m proud of them, my uncle thinks they’re the best and I think my grandparents would approve of their little family. Look at how tall Addie is . . she is one long legged girl.

What a wonderful family! Who knew that after all his escapades when he was younger, Chad would grow up to become such a loving, responsible man. You did well Judy, he is a reflection of his upbringing!

There’s a family in Nevada who had a huge influence on him. He met their son probably the first week we were there. Chad had just turned 19 and Bobby and his entire family was such a positive influence on Chad. I appreciate your kind words but I also so appreciate those folks. It was with Bobby that Chad fell in love with hunting, fishing, camping out in the woods, cooking in cast iron over an open fire. Those experiences changed him and he fell in love with that area of Missouri. You may remember how angry he was at us for moving there and now he wouldn’t even consider leaving.
He did have some escapades that resulted in gray hair and a few tears but I stood strong, butted heads with him often and, of course, now it was all worth it.
