Yesterday morning I was making biscuits for breakfast. I was in a hurry to get the biscuits in the oven. Vince was in a hurry to get outside and get a few things done before it started raining. Got the biscuits in the oven, had the bacon and sausage almost done, looked in on the biscuits and oh, no . . something isn’t right! The biscuits had not risen at all. That’s when I realized I had grabbed the cornstarch instead of the baking powder and used that in the biscuits.
I hurried up and stirred up another batch of biscuits, turned off the sausage and bacon and waited til the biscuits were almost done before finishing the sausage and biscuits.
I make good biscuits . . when I use the correct ingredients. I hope I never make that mistake again!
There was a stick of butter and 2 cups of home milled flour in those flat “biscuits” and I didn’t want to throw them away.
I sliced a couple of them into strips, fried them in butter, added syrup and they were kinda like French toast – pretty good actually.
We were having soup and ham sliders for dinner so I cut up two more biscuits into squares, tossed them in butter, olive oil and herbs, baked them and we used them for croutons in the soup.
Again, not bad but I liked how I fixed them at breakfast better.
Three more biscuits left . . what shall I make with those.

The good biscuits look so light and fluffy! Mine don’t get that high when I use the right ingredients. Where can I find your recipe? Thanks

I’ll post it in a blog post. They’re so easy to make.

Judy, I had the opposite problem. Lemon meringue pie without putting on my glasses. Put the lemon juice into the pan that should have had cornstarch and sugar in it on the stove. Bubbled up like an I love Lucy episode . The containers are both round, I had put In baking powder and baking powder and lemon juice are like a volcano together. I ended up buying a pie on the way home from church for Father’s Day.

The good news is . . I bet neither of us ever make that same mistake again. I was making something today and I looked twice to make sure I had baking powder!

How about making bread pudding? The “old” biscuits look dense so they should soak up whatever custard you make. Put the biscuits in a small dish, add the liquid and some fruit (blueberries, cranberries, raisins??). Add some spices. Let soak for a while then bake. There are lots of recipes on the web. I saw one that had bananas in it.

That’s what’s weird – they don’t soak up anything.

My husband would have liked the first biscuits. I had to roll them almost flat for him. I told him he didn’t want biscuits… he wanted crackers.

Crackers was exactly what I was thinking. I believe if I had cut those super thin and baked them more, I would have had something that resembled crackers. Now you know . . make biscuits but use cornstarch instead of baking powder. 🙂

I think you should grind them up and use them as breadcrumbs. Add whatever seasoning you typically use and perhaps some grated cheese. I think they would work.
