This post is just “stuff” – no theme.
First, I was watching Helen D’s latest flosstube. She mentioned something that I should have been doing through the years. She was talking about canning salsa and she showed the book the recipe is in. She said they add a sticky note to the page on all the recipes they make and add info like: We changed this or that; we wish we had done that; use *this* pot. Great idea. I try to make notes but just write in the book and sometimes that gets messy. We do have plenty of sticky notes around here. 🙂
Second, I am going to have to stop watching flosstubes. Yesterday I was watching Nichol Spohr’s felted snowflake video. You can see lots of wonderful creative ideas on Nichol’s blog.
I wanted to make those felted ornaments. I wanted that Spellbinder die cutter. I want everything! 🙂
I ended up ordering the snowflake die and the falling leaves die from Poshta Designs. I had to order a bit of felt too. I think this might be something Addie will want to do with me.
Yesterday Vince went to town and when he came home, he wanted to go to the hospital to eat. I said no . . I was cooking. Well, we were having chicken sandwiches – frozen breaded chicken breasts from Aldi that we love. Nope, he wanted to go to the hospital to eat so we did. Then today Vince had to go pick up his C-PAP that had been repaired. He said “We can get breakfast out”. I wanted to go to Hobby Lobby so I was fine with that. It ended up that we stopped at Sam’s first because we were stopping at places in the order we came to them. Then we picked up the C-PAP, then we couldn’t decide where to go eat breakfast and then we both said “We could go to the hospital!” We knew they were having chicken and wild rice casserole and I like that and I was hoping they would have banana cake today. So, we made a quick stop at Hobby Lobby, then we went to the hospital to eat, then we came home and we’re never leaving home again!! (not really!)
We were stopping at Sam’s because I wanted to pick up two more packages of chicken to can. The chicken was $2.69 per pound when we bought it Friday. I wrote this post about the cost of home canned chicken vs. storebought canned chicken. That means the chicken I bought last week for $27.60 would have been $30.69 today. That means that the 14 pints of chickens I canned over the weekend, that ended up costing $1.97 per jar, would now cost $2.19 per jar. The already canned chicken is still $2.14 per can. Vince and I talked about it and decided it was a much better deal to buy the already canned – use it where it works best and use the home canned or fresh chicken where it works best.
I understand that 22 cents per jar isn’t going to break the bank but why would I put the work in to canning when I can get a product that’s almost the same as home canned chicken? Not all storebought cans of food are comparable to home canned but for chicken, I’m fine with the storebought cans.
OK . . enough rambling for today.

I love the way Helen D finished the trees she had stitched (I watched her while eating lunch – it was a work from home day). I may need to order the chart for the trees she stitched. I had looked at the chart and decided against it but seeing them stitched “in person” might make me change my mind. Plus I had decided against stitchin the Prairie School snowflake tree she had stitched and seeing hers has me rethinking that as well.

Maybe I did order the Prairie Schooler charts. I meant to order the HOD charts too but forgot. I did like it enough to stitch it.

Did you start the ornaments? Am I remembering correctly you wanted to make them for family? Maybe you already did and I missed it. I just love all of the cross-stitch that you do. I am a quilter but I have dabbled in cross-stitch. Thanks for the inspiration!

Next time we drive through Carthage I’m stopping at the hospital to eat. Do they serve 3 meals a day? I need to try the food at Liberty Hospital.

They serve Breakfast and I’m not sure what all they serve for that but it seems they always have chicken strips, bacon and some type of sausage. They also have a grill where they’ll fix eggs, omelettes. We got biscuits and they have toast too. The biscuits were good.
Lunch and dinner are the same things and it changes daily. Yesterday was chicken and wild rice casserole, a veggie medley (carrots, green beans and corn or something – can’t remember). This Friday they’re having chicken breasts stuffed with brie and one of the sides is tater tot casserole – one of my favorites!
I sent you an email with the times they’re serving which meals
