I am so used to staying home that even just a short trip to town makes me tired.
This morning we had to be on the other side of Carthage at 9 a.m. for our Azure Standard pickup. Before anyone asks, here’s what I got this month. My biggest part of the order (half gallon canning jars) went out of stock before my order was filled.
- 2 – 25 pound bags of amaranth (my two new raised beds are for growing amaranth)
- 1 – 25 pound bag of split peas
- 5 pounds of carrots (their carrots are truly like candy)
- One gallon jug of Sweet Zephyr laundry detergent – Ylang Ylang fragrance, which I love.
- 32 oz. jar of molasses
- 16 oz. jar of maple syrup
- 16 oz. jar of sorghum
Relatively small order without the jars being shipped. I bought the molasses, maple syrup and sorghum to try. We use a lot of both and sometimes they can all be difficult to find here.
We got our order, left and it was about 9:45. Vince said “Want to go have breakfast at the hospital?” Sure!
Vince got sausage, gravy and two eggs (his plate above). I got two eggs, a biscuit and two slices of bacon. For all that, it was $3.50. Since we were right there already, it was a deal – and a delicious and quick breakfast.
Last night, his C-Pap stopped working. Really, it was this morning just before he got up. After we finished breakfast, we ran to Joplin, dropped the C-Pap off, got a loaner. His is still under warranty so they’ll send it off to be repaired or replaced.
Hurried home. Took the dogs out, gave Cooper lunch, Vince took a quick shower and we headed back to Carthage. Vince had PT at 1:00 so we ate .. you guess it . . at the hospital. They had beans and ham and it was so good. They also had hamburger soup. The containers are fairly small so Vince said “Let’s get both” so we did. I also got mac & cheese. Vince got the soup, the beans, two chicken strips and curly fries. Then we decided to split a dessert. Vince told me to choose the dessert so I chose banana cake. Even splitting it in half, it was larger than most desserts you get in restaurants. That was the best banana cake I’ve ever had. I like my cake kinda “packy” – not all fluffy and airy. The icing was delicious! Anyway, it all cost less than $11 and I had a Dr. Pepper. On Fridays, the fountain drinks are 75 cents.
I don’t think we have to go to Carthage at all next week so we probably won’t go there for a few days.
On the way home, Vince wanted to stop at an auction, which was about 1.5 miles from our house. I said “Please just take me home and come back!” He said . . I’ll only stay 5 minutes. I told him . . if you aren’t back in 5 minutes, I’m going home without you and you can walk home or catch a ride. I was surprised to see him back at the car in about 4 minutes. He said “I’ll take you home and come back!”
So . . I’m home and I’m tired but at least I’m not hungry. 🙂

Those prices are amazing. Like you stepped back in time a couple of decades.

It’s really nice. Another reason I’m so happy we moved here.

They must have a very good chef! That’s amazing! We had a hospital built in a newer area south of Denver that had a cafeteria where you could order whatever all day and until later in the evening…my friend and her husband would order cookies, etc. It was very expensive and didn’t taste good, but the hospital was more like a hotel…rooms were very private–almost too private! Personally, I’ve never had good food at a hospital. You two are so lucky to have that!

Chad reminded us that in Kentucky, we all loved the food in the hospital cafeteria and often, the guys from Vince’s office would go there for lunch. One of the hospital in Louisiana always had good food but then they built a massive parking garage and it was a hassle to get to the cafeteria so we stopped going.

.I wonder if the patients get good food, too? This belies the “hospital food” idea most of us have.
Those prices are fabulous. I think at most of the places around here, you could get ONE of those items for $3.50 (“sunshine tax” again).
Our hospital (quite new) must have built a parking garage, because now you have to pay to park! The woman who takes in crocheted items has her husband drop her off and drive around the building so that she doesn’t have to pay to donate!

I have no idea about the food the patients get. This is the smaller hospital in Carthage. There are two larger hospitals in Joplin. One of them is in same system as the smaller Carthage hospital.
