I think we’re officially OLD folks! Vince has been having physical therapy at the local hospital. His therapist was telling him how great the food is in the hospital cafeteria and how inexpensive it is. The cafeteria is actually in a separate building. The therapist told Vince that a lot of the local police eat lunch there. Vince came home a day or so ago with the menu for this week and next week. Yesterday they were having fried fish, which I love! Vince asked early yesterday morning if I wanted to go there and eat and I didn’t. I just wanted to stay home. Later, Vince ended up needing to go to Carthage for something else so I said . . ok . . I’l go there and eat.
We went and ate and it was the best fish I think we’ve had since we’ve been here. Better than the restaurants, better than the food trucks and for one big piece of fish – enough for Vince to be full – it was $4. Everything a la carte. Vince got hush puppies and mixed veggies (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower). I got fish, mixed veggies and roasted sweet potatoes, which we shared. Our bill for both of us was less than $11. I told Vince . . we no longer need the kitchen!
We have to be in Carthage today for our Azure pickup and if I’m remembering correctly, the hospital cafeteria has ham and beans for $2.00. I’ll gladly pay that for ham and beans!
Earlier this week, before we knew about the cafeteria, they had reuben sandwiches for $2 and a baked potato with butter and sour cream for less than $2. There was a group of ladies who came in – four of them. They were workers – maybe
I was totally impressed with the food, the cost and the people working there. I feel like we’re really old when our favorite restaurant is the hospital cafeteria!

When I was doing chemo, I was always there over lunch. I got mine for “free”, but whoever was with me could eat for $4.00 (I think). You could get a burger/sandwich, soup, chips, dessert and a drink for that. It is way less expensive than any area fast food place and tasted better.

When my brother was dying at the Ithaca, NY hospital, I was told it was the best place to eat in town. Prices weren’t quite as good as yours, but there was a big selection and all very good. I even got to pick out my veggies for a stir-fry from a veggie bar! ?

We have eaten at one of our local hospitals because they have the BEST food (ala carte, also). We meet friends there occasionally for lunch – it’s quiet and we can visit, there’s no rush to hurry up and open a table for other diners. People are always raving about their pies and will buy whole pies for family meals (I can vouch for the single serving pie slices, LOL).

The hospital cafeteria here has an atrium (of sorts) outside and we can even sit out there and eat. There are four or five little rooms that have four or five tables in each room. All have lots of windows with nice views. After we ate today, Vince had therapy for 45 minutes. I brought my knitting and had planned to sit out in the atrium and knit but decided to go to the car and sleep. 🙂

My brother in law always said if you are traveling, the hospital cafeteria is the best place to eat because you don’t have to worry about food poisoning! I agree with him!

.The first time I ever went to Hawaii, the (X)$ a day book recommended the Seventh Day Adventist hospital cafeteria. My husband is a dedicated meat eater (SDA are vegetarian), but still remembers that as being a very good lunch! (and a bargain)
And I’m relieved you’re at the hospital just for PT!

That’s funny that the hospital cafeteria was recommended in the travel book.
It’s Vince getting PT . . not me, though after a day of herding dogs, I feel like I need some relief. 🙂

I never had a meal that inexpensive when I worked in a hospital, that’s for sure! There’s a nice cafeteria in the hospital where I get my scans, but I’ve never eaten there. Costs and food choices haven’t matched yours, that’s for sure!

People who work in the hospital get the whole meal for $1.50 including their drinks!
