Compared to many stitchers, I’m still fairly new. It was the very end of 2020 that I saw something my friend, Judy, had stitched and started picking her brain about stitching, then ordering charts, floss, linen. How this hobby has blossomed! 🙂
One thing I’ve never quite nailed down in my head is what to stitch when. Of course, for me, it’s stitch what I want to stitch when I want to stitch it but a lot of stitchers stitch Christmas at about the same time they start decorating for the holidays; many stitch spring pieces starting in about March. I’ve never made any real effort to do seasonal stitching during that particular season.
This year, I have a real yearning to stitch Fall projects. Today I was organizing some charts. I’ve resorted to making a spreadsheet and taking one of those plastic meshy bags from Amazon, filling it with charts . . no rhyme or reason, sticking a sheet of paper in front of the box with a big, bold number, listing all the charts that are in each bag number on the spreadsheet.
Above is a little snippet of the chart. It’s so much easier to find things. At least once a week, I try to fill a bag with charts. Anyway, there were several Fall charts that I came across last night so I pulled those. They’re probably fairly recent purchases since they were all together, or, maybe I pulled them specifically to start or have finished for Fall. Anyway, I want to work on at least one of these this Fall.
Above is Perfect Pumpkin by Heart in Hand. I’m thinking I’ll just stitch the row of pumpkins and leave off the border. I don’t like framing with a straight border – especially a long, straight border. I have a hard time getting a straight border straight in the frame.
This is Sampler Seasons: Autumn by Blueberry Ridge Design. I love one color projects. The called for color is Weeks Dye Works Rust. I’ll probably use a rusty – either reddish or orange-ish silk from Vikki Clayton.
This one is 1869 Thanksgiving Pincushion. On 40 count linen, this will be 3.5″ x 3″ so that should be a fairly quick stitch. That little pin pillow requires 21 colors of DMC. Maybe it won’t be such a quick stitch. 🙂
This one is by Heart in Hand and part of the Doodles series. There are 7 or 8 or maybe more of these. This one is Autumn and the one below is Thanksgiving. These will finish at 3.25″ x 3.25″.
I’ll be doing great to get any one of these finished but . . there’s always next year . . I hope. 🙂

Love those charts especially the 1869 pumpkin pincushion! But you’re right about it not being so quick with 21 different colors! The colors though really makes the pattern sing.

– I usually have one big project and do a seasonal small when I don’t want to work on the big one, Right know I’m working on Consider the Lillies and a punch needle piece, Halloween Tuxedo cat.

Consider the Lilies is definitely a lot of work. I have everything I need to do punch needle and am too chicken to try it. I think it’s so pretty — maybe next year I’ll do it. 🙂

Had not seen the 1869 pincushion before, love it! I tend to stitch what I want, whenever, but I also enjoy joining in on some of the monthly prompts.
